9. Restart the PC

Restarting your PC effectively solves many issues on your system, including the second monitor not detected issue.

When you restart your PC or laptop, it will close the other processes running in the background that interfere with the connection between your PC and the second monitor.

10. Check the Display Adapter

If you can connect one external monitor and the second monitor is not detected, then it could be that your graphics card cannot support multiple monitors at the same time.

A display splitter also cannot help you as it will duplicate the same signal instead of creating two independent signals.

For supporting multiple monitors, you should use a USB adapter for an extra video output port or a docking station. Now, check whether the Multi-Monitor Setup Issues in Windows issue is fixed.

11. Verify the Cable Connections

A loose cable can also cause this problem. Therefore, to be sure, unplug the cable and plug it in again, even if they seem well secured.

12. Turn the Screen On and Off

Sometimes connections don’t like swapping when you turn on a different monitor. Therefore turn off the display and turn it on again. Now it will recognize it correctly and might display the second monitor.

13. Remove Other Peripheral Devices

Disconnect all the unnecessary peripheral devices like cameras and so on. After disconnecting, check whether the display works properly. If it works properly, then they are probably interfering with your system.

Hence find newer compatible accessories or use connections on your PC instead of a monitor.

14. Update to Windows 11

Updating to Windows 11 can fix this issue as it has many new features. Once you update to Windows 11, go to the Display Settings option and look in the Multiple displays section.

Ensure that window locations based on the monitor screen option are enabled, which will solve this issue.

15. Buy a New Monitor Cable For the Secondary Monitor

Your cable could be old and failing. This is possible if it is not shielded and experiences interference from Bluetooth, wifi, and any other electrical noise. Hence it is recommended to buy a new cable that has excellent shielding.

16. Shorten the Cable Length

Try to pick a new cable that is shorter than the old cable. When the cable is longer, the data has to travel longer, and the data has to travel for a long time which could lead to interference.

Thus, the shorter cable can reduce artifacts and problems similar to that.
