The svelte cousin to the regular Audi A4, the 2021 S5 Sportback will be launched in India on March 22. In fact, the Ingolstadt-based luxury automaker was supposed to bring the S5 Sportback to our shores in late 2020. Unfortunately, that plan went kaput, and the arrival of this stylish sedan was pushed. However, unlike its A4 stablemate, the upcoming 2021 S5 Sportback will not be assembled in India. Instead, it will take the more expensive CBU (completely built unit) route for the time being. The standard A5 is already a pretty good-looking car, though the S5 Sportback takes that a few steps further.

To elevate its status as the performance version of the A5, Audi has given the S5 Sportback a few tweaks. On the design front, the massive Singleframe grille upfront is now painted black and features a signature honeycomb pattern. The S5 Sportback also gets a sportier and more aggressive front bumper with large air intakes and more black elements.
Meanwhile, the sleek LED headlamps look really cool, but you can always upgrade and get Audi’s fancy Matrix LEDs, instead. Along the side, the S5 Sportback’s lower ride height is complemented by the larger and bolder-looking alloy wheels with painted brake calipers, black window surrounds, and sportier side skirts. The rear of the S5 Sportback features some really stylish LED taillights, a boot-lip spoiler, quad-exhaust pipes, and an air diffuser.

Being the more expensive and performance-oriented version of the A5, the 2021 S5 Sportback gets a few extra items. For instance, there are brushed aluminium inlays, stainless-steel pedals, some carbon-fiber and alcantara trim, and a couple of S-specific items such as a flat-bottom steering wheel and sports seats.
Standard equipment on the S5 Sportback will be plenty for most people as you get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster (Virtual Cockpit) and a 10.1-inch touch-infotainment system with Audi Connect functionality. Customers can pay more and get adaptive cruise control, a Bang & Olufsen premium audio system, and 360-degree parking cameras. Safety is a non-issue as well as the S5 Sportback comes with a plethora of passive and active nannies to keep you out of trouble.

Providing you the reason to spend the extra money on the S5 Sportback is its 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 petrol engine. It sounds pretty good as you build pace, though it is the 349hp and 500Nm of torque that it develops, which will get you more excited. Paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a permanent Quattro all-wheel-drive system, the S5 Sportback needs just 4.5 seconds to hit 100 kmph. Audi has also added a sports differential and beefed-up the bushings to ensure things stay tidy around corners. While it will be a low-volume model for Audi, the 2021 S5 Sportback has a few rivals in India. The list includes the new BMW M340i xDrive and the Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan.
