The sport sedan is now how old!?

Back in April of last year, Audi Europe revealed the all-new A3 sedan, known internally by chassis code 8Y. Audi decided to skip the 2021 model year for America, but there's still lots to look forward to, from low prices that undercut BMW and Mercedes to exciting new paint options.

Now the US-spec model has been launched, 15 years after it went on sale for the 2006 model year as one of the first modern upmarket compacts. Promising the “essence of Audi design, performance, craftsmanship, technology, and innovation,” this should be a great buy for those wanting an affordable and premium machine.

Audi has now begun deliveries to its various US dealerships, offering a comprehensive list of standard features. For starters, all models get a 10.1-inch MMI touch display, while the 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit is an option. This can be paired with a head-up display and a surround-view camera system, but you'll want to take in the redesigned cabin that offers a bias towards the driver.

The outside is all-new too, boasting a wider stance and modern design flourishes while still giving a nod of respect to past models. This is visible in the honeycomb grille inspired by RS models, while Matrix-design LED headlights are an option that will really give this car an air of premium quality.

Other safety enhancements include standard lane departure warning, as well as options like Audi cruise assist with lane guidance and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. Park assist is also offered.

Under the hood, a 2.0-liter turbo-four produces 201 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. This is helped along by a standard 48-volt mild-hybrid system for the first time, giving EPA-estimated figures of 28/36/31 mpg city/highway/combined. This is an improvement of 2 mpg across the board.

For those who are more concerned with performance, the S3 will come with a more powerful version of the same four-pot, here developing 306 hp and 295 lb-ft. Pricing for the A3 starts at $33,900, while the S3 will carry a base MSRP of $44,900, swelling to $51,500 for the top trim.
