There's just one HUGE downside.
After a long teaser campaign, the 2022 Lexus LX was finally revealed to the world this week as a more luxurious alternative to the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series, and early indications suggest it was worth the wait. Riding on the same GA-F platform as the new and overseas-only Land Cruiser, it offers improved rigidity and reduced weight. In short, the LX is more capable than ever both on and off-road.
If you plan on taking the luxury SUV off the beaten track on a regular basis, Lexus has unveiled a new Off-Road Edition of the 2022 LX. Sadly, the off-road-focused Lexus LX is only available in Japan for now.
It's a shame as we imagine it would sell very well here – especially now that the Land Cruiser is dead in America. To enhance the SUV's capability, the LX Off-Road Edition comes with three locking differentials, with one on the front axle, one on the rear axle, and one in the four-wheel-drive transfer case. Each locking differential can distribute equal torque to each wheel, making the LX 600 easier to control on rough terrain.
Other off-road enhancements include matte Gray 18-inch wheels wrapped in chunky off-road tires, although larger 22-inch forged aluminum wheels are available for the standard model.
Complementing its improved off-road prowess, the 2022 Lexus LX Off-Road Edition has a more rugged appearance than the standard SUV thanks to a matte black grille and plastic fender guards. Under the hood, the Lexus LX Off-Road Edition is powered by the same 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo engine as the regular model that replaces its predecessor’s V8, generating 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.
Power is sent to all four wheels through a ten-speed automatic transmission. Lexus currently has no plans to sell the Off-Road Edition Stateside, the standard 2022 LX will go on sale in the US in Q1, 2022.
