Comparing the 2022 Dodge Charger to the 2022 Toyota Avalon might sound like comparing caviar to tuna. One is geared toward being luxurious and plush, while the other skews more toward the performance side of the equation. However, the Dodge Charger does have some advantages over the Toyota Avalon. Here are four of them.

1. The Dodge Charger is available with a choice of V8 engines

Although the 2022 Toyota Avalon has a leg up over the Dodge Charger when it comes to fuel efficiency, thanks to its hybrid variant, the Charger has a V8 engine. Choosing the Charger Scat Pack will give you a 485-hp, 6.4-liter V8 engine. But if that’s not enough power, then the Charger Hellcat adds a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that pushes out a whopping 797 hp.

Sure, it may only get around 12 mpg in the city, according to the EPA, but it will surely blow the doors off any Avalon sitting next to it at a stoplight.

2. The Dodge Charger’s interior is as comfortable as the Avalon’s

Let’s face it, the Dodge Charger’s interior is not as luxurious as the Avalon’s, but it’s not meant to be. That being said, it’s still comfortable for a muscle car with its leather upholstery, large front seats, and ample rear seat room.

3. The Charger is available in AWD form

The Toyota Avalon is only available in a front-wheel-drive configuration, while the Charger is primarily a rear-drive car. However, any buyers that live in snow states can rejoice over the fact that the Charger is also available in all-wheel-drive form. Only the base V6 models are the Charger models that are able to spin all four wheels, but it’s nice to have the added traction when needed.

4. The Dodge Charger has a larger fuel tank for more range

Speaking of base-model V6 engines, the 3.5-liter mill in the Toyota Avalon is rated at 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. That’s a little better than the V6 Charger’s 19 city and 30 mpg highway figures, but there’s a small ace up the muscle car’s sleeve. That ace is its 18.5-gallon gas tank, which allows it to go up to 426 miles on one tank.

In comparison, the Toyota Avalon has a 14.5-gallon tank, which affords it a total range of 395 miles, according to fueleconomy.gov.

The 2022 Dodge Charger does have some advantages over the Toyota Avalon

While it might seem odd to compare a performance sedan like the 2022 Dodge Charger to a luxury cruiser like the Toyota Avalon, it’s not. One skews toward luxury, and the other leans toward performance. However, if you look a little more closely, you’ll see that the Charger can offer a little more for those that have a need for speed.

Additionally, with a base price of $32,500, the 2022 Charger is a little cheaper. But if you want all-out speed, then you can look forward to paying closer to $87,000 for the Hellcat version.
