BMC Software CEO Ayman Sayed

Enterprise software provider BMC Software said it had increased its India headcount over the pandemic, and would continue to grow its presence here. Speaking to ET during a recent visit to India, Ayman Sayed, president & chief executive officer at BMC Software, said about one-third of its 6,700 employees were located in India.
“A significant portion of our product development services, customer success, sales, finance, HR, all corporate functions are represented here,” he said.
About 40% of the patents filed in the last few years have been from India, signifying the role the country has played in developing new solutions for its global customers.
Sayed said there was a global shift underway, with the amount of data being generated, making it critical to businesses, as well as the growing importance of cybersecurity.
“Data holds a lot of value to every business in how they can dissect it, analyse it, and translate it into valuable insights that can then drive and propel business growth,” he said.
The company is also working with clients on how they can use technology to meet their ESG goals and mitigate challenges around it.
He said a lot of the new work was happening in areas around data and automation, with the focus being on helping customers transition into becoming autonomous digital enterprises. A large part of the innovation around products and solutions towards this is being driven from India.
What’s helped drive growth in recent years is also that several of its key customers already have their back office units in India. This makes it easy for BMC to bring them to its customer experience centre and showcase the solutions it is working on, speeding up the decision making and execution process.
Three years ago, it set up BMC Innovation Labs, including one in India, which focuses on taking ideas and turning them into commercial products and innovate around the core technology and existing product lines.
Internally too, the company has streamlined the organisation and is driving things more centrally across functions like sales and human resources.
