We know that the year 2022 is almost over, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t get a good deal on a new car. There’s still time to buy that sports car that you have always wanted. And if you can’t decide on which one to get, here are five good examples that cost less than $40,000.

1. 2022 Subaru WRX — $30,600

2022 Subaru WRX | Subaru

Who wouldn’t want a rally-inspired, four-door sedan with an all-wheel drivetrain? We know we would. And if you do, then you’ll love the 2022 Subaru WRX. The 2022 model year marks the latest generation of the turbocharged street rocket, and it underwent many changes. It rides on a new platform, has a more distinct look, and it’s propelled by a larger and more powerful 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re looking for power and practicality, the Subaru WRX can undoubtedly give you both.

2. 2022 Dodge Challenger — $36,360

We have to admit that the Dodge Challenger is quite the porky vehicle, even for a muscle car, but it’s still fun to drive. The Challenger comes standard with a V6 engine, but there are a couple of V8 engines available as you go higher up the trim ranks. However, if you want to stay under the $40,000 mark, we suggest getting the Challenger GT model with AWD; it’s great for the snow.

3. 2022 Honda Civic Si — $28,315

sports cars

2022 Honda Civic SI | Honda

The 2022 Honda Civic Si was built for those who want practicality, affordability, reliability, and a whole lot of driving fun in one package. Under the hood is a 200-hp, turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that routes its power to the front wheels via a slick-shifting manual transmission. We had a chance to drive the 2022 Civic Si and can say that it’s without a doubt one of the most fun compact sedans we have ever gotten to drive.

Its handling is on point, and it’s interior is comfortable and full of tech-savvy features. If you’re looking for a simple Civic with an added touch of spiciness, the Si trim level is where it’s at.

4. 2022 Toyota GR86 – $27,700

2023 Toyota GR86 | Toyota

What can we say about the 2022 Toyota GR86 that hasn’t been said before? It’s a sporty coupe with a front-engine, rear-drive layout that’s comfortable to drive every day. It also has the chops to carve up the canyons on the weekends. We had the pleasure of driving the GR86 this year and enjoyed its 228-hp, high-revving engine, which matched well with its six-speed manual transmission.

No, it wasn’t a super-fast muscle car by any means, but it was very well-balanced and would make a great daily driver.

5. 2022 Volkswagen GTI — $29,880

The Volkswagen GTI has also been heralded as the original “hot hatchback,” and the 2022 model carries on that torch. Edmunds says that its available dual-clutch and six-speed transmissions are “excellent” and that the car is fun to drive with its “sophisticated handling.” Under its hood is a spritely turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that pumps out 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, so we’re not surprised that it’s fun to drive. Best of all, it seats five comfortably, has four doors, and it’s priced well under $40,000.

Best sports cars under $40,000

Although it may seem hard to find a good deal nowadays, they are out there. And if you’re looking for a sports car, one of these five can have you smiling ear-to-ear for less than $40,000.
