Apple is always trying to be different from the rest since the company launched its smartphone in 2007. Staying different has become a tradition that the company aims to keep at all costs. In as much as Apple wants to do everything differently, its biggest challenge is trying to stay independent.

Staying independence as a smartphone maker simply means using your own parts to manufacture your smartphones. The world in which we live today makes this dream virtually impossible. Apple is much aware of this, but there are certain important components that Apple wants to manufacture all by themselves.

As you may already know, Apple uses its own Bionic chips in the iPhones. The company also ditched Intel and went in for its own M-chips for its MacBooks and iPads.

apple, news, phones, tech

For some years now, the Cupertino company has been working on its own 5G chips, but the challenge seems to be more than what Apple anticipated. These are some of the reasons why Apple delayed in featuring 5G in its smartphones. 5G in iPhones only started in 2020 with the iPhone 12 series. As a matter of fact, the iPhone 14 series were supposed to feature a 5G modem from its mother company.

Gizchina News of the week

According to report from DigiTimes, Apple is still in the process of developing its own custom-made 5G modem. Unfortunately, the iPhone 15 cannot still be able to make use of this 5G chip. So, Apple will keep relying on Qualcomm for 5G modems for the iPhone 15.

Reports say that TSMC will be the main supplier of the Qualcomm 5G chips. Qualcomm will use the 5nm and 4nm processes to build these 5G chips. As we stated earlier on, the iPhone 15 series will still use a Qualcomm 5G chips and this new 5G chip is what Apple will use for its next flagships.
