Chinese internet content regulator the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) issued a new policy on Nov. 25 aimed at regulating AI-modified content, including voice, facial content, and intelligent chatting. Such content must be clearly labeled to avoid any confusion and any individual or organization is forbidden from altering or hiding such labels according to the policy’s specifications. The policy will take effect officially on Jan. 10, 2023. Providers of AI services must put them on record and have them inspected by officials if they possess the potential to affect public opinion. Chinese video platform Bilibili has been displaying such labels on AI-modified videos since earlier this year. [CAC, in Chinese]
