Apple and Ericsson are ending their patent lawsuit with a new licensing agreement.
In a press release, Ericsson states that both companies have reached a multi-year, global patent license agreement which includes a cross-license relating to patented cellular standard-essential technologies and grants certain other patent rights. In addition, they have mutually agreed to strengthen their technology and business collaboration.
With the new licensing agreement, Apple and Ericsson will put an end to the patent lawsuits filed by both parties in several countries. While Apple is working on its own 5G modem, the company still needs to license key patents and technologies from Ericsson and Qualcomm.
