According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple will reportedly delay the launch of iPadOS 16 to October.
In the past, new versions of iPadOS have traditionally been released alongside new versions of iOS in September – shortly after the unveiling of new iPhones.
The delay of the software is said to be partly related to the implementation of Stage Manager, a new multitasking feature that makes it easier for users to organise and switch between apps.
The report from Bloomberg said that the feature has drawn criticism during beta testing from developers for its bugs, confusing interface, and lack of compatibility with most iPads.
When iPadOS 16 was released, a lot of talk was centred around how Stage Manager would work only with M1-equipped iPads.
Though iPad owners looking forward to the new iPadOS will undoubtedly be disappointed, the upside to this is that the release of iPadOS 16 will now be timed to launch more closely with that of new iPads. Apple is rumoured to be updating the iPad Pro later this year with the new M2 chip that debuted in the new MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro.
