Along with the recent release of the iOS 16, iPhone 14, and AirPods Pro 2, Apple has also released an updated MagSafe Charger firmware. It is designed to work with the iPhone 12, the later models, and the AirPods Pro 2.

The firmware has been updated from its previous version, which is 247.0.0.0, to 255.0.0.0 or 10M299 firmware. This has been the third firmware update that has been issued by Apple for the MagSafe Charger, since its release in 2020, according to MacRumors.

What is Included in the Update?

Since the news was only heard through the grapevine, there are no official announcements yet as to what the update is about. Though, like most updates, it’s most likely bug fixes and/or new features for the wireless Apple charger.

The update could also be in line with Apple’s new releases, which means the company might have updated its firmware to optimize the charging process for the new devices.

How to Update the MagSafe Charger?

It is as simple as attaching your charger to an Apple device. It’s not an absolute certainty, but Apple usually updates its firmware versions automatically in the background. Attaching the charger to an iPhone or Airpods Pro 2 could initiate the update.

How Does The Wireless Charger Work?

The wireless charger has perfectly aligned magnets that efficiently attach themselves to your iPhone. Users can get up to 15 watts of peak power delivery for fast charging. The MagSafe Charger has a system that is intelligent enough to adapt to conditions and optimize charging.

Users need to plug into a power source before connecting the device to the MagSafe Charger so the charger can verify that it’s safe to deliver maximum power, according to Apple’s official website.

Pros and Cons of the Charger

One of the appeals of anything wireless is the lack of cables. These wires can prove to be an inconvenience when you forget to store them properly and they get tangled. Also, the wireless charger provides up to 15 watts of power as opposed to a Qi which only has 7.5 watts of peak power.

The downside to this charger is that it charges your iPhone through induction, or in simpler terms, heat. This could be dangerous if you forget that your phone is charging and leave it for long periods of time.

Even though it’s not recommended, people tend to use their phones while it’s plugged in. The simple pleasure of using your phone while charging is no longer possible since your phone needs to be attached to the magnet in order to charge.
