Time to turn your brakes into an ecosystem.

Brembo recently introduced its new Sensify intelligent braking system, which is essentially a new way of looking at a car’s braking system. We’re used to thinking of Brembo as only a brake company. As in, if you need a V8 Land Rover Defender to slow down, you use Brembos.

We know Sensify sounds pretentious, but Brembo makes a good point about how we perceive brakes. We look at them and see various parts like calipers, discs, and pads. All operated mechanically, but with interference from third-party safety systems like ABS, usually supplied by companies like Bosch.

Sensify aims to turn a braking system into an “ecosystem,” consisting of all the hardware mentioned above, plus friction materials with digital technology and artificial intelligence. This will create a new braking platform that includes the hardware, software, algorithms, and data management for a digitally controlled braking system.

We do wonder if Brembo will offer Sensify in the nine concept colors it showcased in 2019?

“By introducing Sensify, Brembo is pushing the boundaries of what is possible with a braking system, opening up entirely new opportunities to drivers to improve their experience on the road and customize brake response to their driving style. It gives drivers the peace of mind they are looking for,” says Daniele Schillaci, Brembo’s Chief Executive Officer.

Brembo doesn’t say exactly what Sensify is capable of doing. Still, it mentions that integrating a digital brain and sensors at each wheel allows braking to be controlled independently. It comes a few months after Brembo announced that it’s reinventing the brake caliper.

As you can imagine, that kind of control can only increase diving pleasure. When braking into a corner, the braking system can put pressure on the inside wheel to improve turn-in. Since braking into a corner isn't ideal, Sensify will likely have the ability to enhance stability using the rest of the braking system.

Brembo also states that Sensify is a more sustainable braking solution. Since the braking is optimized, there's less drag between the pads and discs, which means fewer emissions.

Finally, Brembo says its new system offers more flexibility to car manufacturers, as it's simple to integrate into both EVs and ICE platforms.Brembo says Sensify is expected to make its debut in 2024. Until then, you can still order Brembo aftermarket kits for a wide variety of models.
