At the launch of the BYD Atto 3 today, BYD Malaysia (Sime Darby Beyond Auto) took the opportunity to tease the BYD Dolphin and the BYD Seal. The BYD Dolphin is an EV hatchback while the BYD is an EV fastback sedan.
Hinting at possible debuts in the future, let’s take a closer look at both EVs by the Chinese Brand. Possibly its sleekest model to date, the BYD Seal measures 4,800 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,460 mm tall. With a wheelbase of 2,920 mm, the BYD Seal is about the size of a BMW 5 Series or a Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
In China, the BYD Seal is offered in four versions:

The range-topping Long Range AWD Performance has a system output of 390 kW (530 hp) and supposedly accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. With an 82.5 kWh battery capacity, the range-topping Seal has an electric driving range of 650 km (CLTC). The ‘Long Range RWD’ has the best range of them all with 700 km of pure electric range (CLTC).
The BYD Dolphin, on the other hand, is a hatchback EV that has been in the market since 2021. In China, the BYD Dolphin is available with three versions – one with a 30.7 kWh battery, and two with 44.9 kWh battery packs (albeit with different system output figures).
In its range-topping form, the BYD Dolphin has a 401 km range (NEDC) from its 44.9-kWh battery pack. The single electric motor makes 130 kW (176 hp) and 290 Nm and powers the front wheels only. AC charging can be done at a maximum rate of 7 kW and DC fast charging can be done at a maximum rate of 60 kW. The Dolphin is BYD’s first car to be built on the brand’s e-platform 3.0.
Only shown for a brief moment at the event, the BYD Seal and the BYD Dolphin are interesting choices for EVs should they be officially launched in Malaysia. For now, BYD’s only model for the Malaysian market is the newly-launched BYD Atto 3.
