Come April 7, 2021, Citroen will mark its entry into India as it finally launches the C5 Aircross. The French carmaker’s first venture in our market will be a really big moment for the company. Even before its official prices are announced, the Citroen C5 Aircross is already making a lot of people take notice. Firstly, being a new brand always brings a certain level of intrigue. Then there’s the fact that the model to be launched is a crossover SUV – the kind that makes many Indian car buyers blush. Citroen inaugurated its dealerships not too long ago while accepting bookings from customers starting March 1. There are presently about 10 Citroen showrooms in India, located in places like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, and Kolkata.

The Citroen C5 Aircross will be available in two trim levels – Feel and Shine – with prices expected to start just under Rs 30 Lakh. Most cars from Citroen’s stable come loaded with features and safety equipment as standard, and the C5 Aircross is no different. There will be a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. Adding onto these will be dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof, paddle shifters, cruise control, leather upholstery, an electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, a hands-free tailgate, ambient lighting, etc. As expected, the entry-level trim will miss out on a few features, but it will still boast enough for most.

Almost all modern-day Citroen cars have scored a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating. There are definitely worse cars out there that you could find yourself in – the C5 Aircross isn’t one amongst them. Offering protection and safety here will be six airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System, front & rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, ISOFIX anchorages, Blind Spot Monitoring System, a tire pressure monitoring system, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control. As far as styling goes, the Citroen C5 Aircross is sure to grab your attention no matter which angle you look at it from. The quirky design elements of this crossover SUV are there for you to see, while there are enough French flair and sophistication to go about as well.

The front fascia of the C5 Aircross sports split-LED lighting units, a smoothly-sculpted nose, and chrome-embellished chevrons in the middle. Add to these the striking 18-inch diamond-cut alloy rims, Citroen’s “Airbump” door protectors, and cool-looking LED taillights – you have a pretty chic SUV on your hands. Along the same lines, the interior of the Citroen C5 Aircross is anything but boring. Instead, there are different shades, textures, trim materials, and styling details to keep you entertained even on long journeys. Furthermore, the rear seats can be moved as individual units for added convenience, whilst the quality of materials is really quite nice as well.

Providing propulsion to the front-wheel-drive Citroen C5 Aircross is a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-banger with 178hp and 400Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and there are also different driving modes to choose from. For better traction and civilized urban manners, the C5 Aircross comes with Citroen’s Grip Control System and a hydraulic suspension setup. Where the former helps in low-traction surfaces, the latter comes in handy over bad roads and increases occupant comfort. Truth be told, the Citroen C5 Aircross looks really good on paper and in real-world applications. It is now down to its pricing and a little bit of fate that will decide this funky SUV’s journey in our market.
