14 RS models from every generation are on display at the Saratoga Automobile Museum.

Porsche's revered RS badge is reserved for its most hardcore, track-focused 911 cars. Introduced in 1973, the original Carrera RS was a road-going version of Porsche's Rennsport (German for racing) 2.7 race car. To meet homologation requirements, 500 road cars were built. It was faster and lighter than the standard car and more track-focused thanks to its upgraded suspension and beefier brakes, and original examples fetch a fortune.

Over the years, Porsche 911 RS cars have evolved and improved significantly, becoming faster and lighter with each generation. Illustrating this evolution, one of the only complete collections of 911 RS cars in the world is being showcased at the Saratoga Automobile Museum in New York.

Dubbed Rennsport: The Complete Collection, the exhibition showcases Porsche's “decades-long pursuit of perfecting its iconic 911.” Spanning every generation, 14 Porsche 911 RS cars are on display at the New York museum. Among the cars in the impressive collection is the inimitable 1973 911 Carrera RS, the gorgeous 1974 Carrera RS 3.0, the highly desirable 1984 SC/RS, the rare 2004 996.2 GT3 RS, and the even rarer 2011 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0.

This incredible Porsche 911 RS collection was provided by Steve Harris, an architect and avid Porsche enthusiast who collects rare Porsche cars and races air-cooled 911s in the Ramshorn Rally.

Photography of the 911 RS collection by renowned automotive photographer James Lipman will also be displayed at the exhibition. “Outside of the Porsche Museum in Germany, this is the only place the public will be able to see every RS model from 1973 to 2019,” commented the museum's executive director Carly Connors.

If you're a fan of vintage Porsche 911 RS cars, the Rennsport: The Complete Collection exhibition runs until Spring 2022 at the Saratoga Automobile Museum. By then, Porsche may have unveiled the all-new 992-generation 911 GT3 RS. Spy shots have shown that Porsche has already started testing prototypes, so we may yet get a new addition to the RS range before the exhibition closes.
