confirmed: 2021 skoda octavia to be launched in india in april

After some speculation, Skoda has finally confirmed that the new 2021 Octavia will be launched in India this April. The fourth-generation iteration of one of the nation’s favorite mid-size premium sedans made its global debut back in 2019. The Octavia has always had a large fan following in India, and the 2021 model will only expand that base. Slightly larger than the previous one, the all-new Octavia rides on the VW Group’s highly prolific and versatile MQB platform. The confirmation has come straight from Zac Hollis, Director of Sales at Skoda Auto India, so this is it!

The 2021 Skoda Octavia is almost the shrunken-down version of the latest-gen Superb. This obviously means that a lot of its exterior styling is shared with the brand’s flagship offering. Compared to its predecessor, the 2021 Octavia features a more contemporary exterior with revised details all over. For starters, the new model is 18mm longer and 15mm wider than the old Octavia, though that difference will be difficult to spot.

In the front, Skoda has chucked away the old car’s quad-headlamp setup for a more restrained yet sophisticated one. The newer LED headlamps look nicer and are less polarizing in their design. They also get a new and sharper design for the LED daytime-running lights.

The 2021 Octavia sports the brand’s latest butterfly front grille design, though it seems a touch larger than before. At the back, the Octavia now gets new split-LED tail lamps that look quite dashing and upmarket. And just like in the all-new Kushaq, the rear of the 2021 Octavia sports the Skoda branding in bold letters.

Meanwhile, other changes on the outside are a little less visible, though not non-existent. For instance, Skoda has revised the front and rear bumpers, whilst also tweaking the design of the alloy wheels. Finally, those with a keen eye will notice that the 2021 Octavia rides a little lower than its predecessors.

On the inside, it is a typically modern and upscale effort as seen in other new Skoda models. In international markets, the 2021 Octavia comes loaded with goodies. This includes a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and a virtual assistant, plus a crisp 10.25-inch Virtual Cockpit digital driver’s display.

Moreover, the infotainment system is pretty modern and even understands gesture-based inputs, while connected car technology is also available. Depending on the market, the 2021 Octavia further gets dual-zone automatic climate control, power-operated & ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, a wireless charging pad, LED mood lighting, and a 12-speaker Canton premium audio system.

Chances are that Skoda might skip a few top-end features for our market, just to keep the price from ballooning. In terms of its safety equipment, the 2021 Octavia will come with up to six airbags, Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control System, ISOFIX anchor points, Hill Hold Assist, all-round parking sensors with a reversing camera, and anti-lock brakes. While all of these will likely make it to India, others like a head-up display, Predictive Cruise Control, Collision Avoidance Assist, and Traffic Jam Assist may not.

In India, the 2021 Skoda Octavia will mostly be offered with just one engine option – a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol. This TSI unit should develop 187hp and 320Nm of peak torque, while the drive will be sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. For those who loved the old diesel Octavia, hard luck, Skoda will not be bringing in any diesel variant of the new Octavia. According to Zac Hollis, Skoda will begin customer deliveries of the 2021 Octavia at the end of May.
