Introduction

Corsair should be a well-known brand name by this point in the United States and Europe thanks to the easily identifiable yellow boxes. The company is well established in the computer market for a number of years now, offering gaming peripherals, flash drives, SSDs, AIOs, power supplies and entire pre-built computers. Of course, let’s not forget about the highly successful memory division. Corsair is also one of the few brands that took the leap and offer DDR5 during the first few months despite global supply chain issues. With the AMD imminent upcoming release for its new processors, DDR5 will be exiting the early adoption phase shortly after. Throughout 2023 we will see that the prices will continue to decrease as the market shifts to higher DDR5 sales. If you are reading this after AMD new processors are out, you will have no choice but to use DDR5 for Zen 4 (AM5) based systems. For those Intel owners, 12th and 13th Gen Core processors share DDR4 support as well. For the casual user, leaving behind DDR4 isn’t always beneficial. This is only a quick reminder that DDR5 may not be worth the transition just yet. For those who want an in-depth look into the trade-offs between the two, TechPowerUp already has an article with an in-depth comparison of DDR4 and DDR5 performance using Intel Alder Lake CPUs.

corsair dominator platinum rgb ddr5-6600 cl32 2x 16 gb review
Corsair currently offers an assortment of memory products ranging from laptop DDR3 SODIMMs to PC enthusiast grade DDR5 memory. Using the well established DDR4 memory lines, Corsair brings forward both Vengeance and Dominator products reusing the names and overall design blueprints for the next iteration. Both products are available in RGB, with the Vengeance series offering non-RGB memory kits as well. Configurations include 32 GB (2x 16 GB) and 64 GB (2x 32 GB) kits with frequencies ranging from 5200 MT/s to 6600 MT/s. In this review, we will be taking a closer look at the Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR5-6600 memory kit. Using ultra-low timings of 32-39-39-76 operating at 1.4 V for the 6600 MT/s X.M.P profile, it brings higher bandwidth and considerable performance gains compared to the baseline JEDEC 4800 MT/s DDR5 with a CAS latency of 40 operating at 1.1 V. Marketed towards PC enthusiasts, we will benchmark this this Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR5 32 GB kit and see how it stacks up to the competition along with some overclocking as well!
