Despite the onslaught of electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid cars, like the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid, continue providing fuel-sipping performance without the range anxiety of a battery-powered vehicle. While a fully loaded Toyota Camry Hybrid is more expensive than the comparable non-hybrid Camry XSE, the increased fuel economy could pay you back before the 36,000-mile Basic Warranty runs out. So, how much does a 2023 Toyota Camry XSE Hybrid cost, and what do you get for your money?

The 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid

The 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid comes in various models, including LE, SE, SE Nightshade, XLE, and XSE. The upper models range in price from $30,615 for the Hybrid SE Nightshade to $33,520 for the top-tier Hybrid XSE. However, the Hybrid XSE isn’t the most expensive Camry XSE model. That honor goes to the XSE V6 Camry with a starting price of $36,370. It’s also the least fuel-efficient Camry, with an EPA-estimated 26 mpg combined compared to the hybrid’s 46 combined mpg.

All hybrid 2023 Camry’s feature a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 176 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque on its own. Toyota pairs the gasoline engine with a 650-volt electric motor producing 118 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque. The system delivers a net output of 208 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque to a front-wheel drive system through an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (ECVT).

2023 Toyota Camry XSE Hybrid | Toyota

Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has evaluated the 2023 Camry Hybrid at this time. But the 2023 model year remains structurally unchanged from 2022, which received top safety ratings from both organizations.

As for standard safety features in a fully loaded Toyota Camry Hybrid? Fortunately, the 2023 Toyota Camry XSE Hybrid comes stocked with a host of standard advanced safety features as part of Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. These driver-assist safety features include:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

The Camry XSE Hybrid is also standard with the automaker’s Star Safety System, which includes safety features such as:

  • Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control
  • Traction Control
  • Anti-lock Brake System
  • Electronic Brake-force Distribution
  • Brake Assist
  • Smart Stop Technology
  • Driver and front passenger Whiplash-Injury-Lessening seats
  • Collision sensors that deactivate the high-voltage battery upon impact

The interior of a fully loaded Toyota Camry Hybrid has plenty to offer

2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid XSE Interior | Toyota

There’s no denying that the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid is a safe car, particularly if you find yourself behind the wheel of a fully loaded model. The good news is that you can expect a fully loaded Toyota Camry Hybrid also to come stocked with people-pleasing interior features. In fact, interior amenities included in every Toyota Camry XSE Hybrid include:

  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Leather-trimmed front seats with multi-stage heating
  • Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charging with a charge indicator light
  • 9-inch touchscreen display with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa compatibility

Is buying a fully loaded Toyota Camry Hybrid worth the extra spend?

MotorTrend gives the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid good marks for its fuel economy, “abundant safety features,” and updated SE Nightshade Edition. On the other hand, the Camry’s handling is underwhelming, as is its interior design, and it also lags behind the competition when accelerating from zero to 60 mph. With these things in mind, the 2023 Camry XSE Hybrid will likely satisfy a large segment of fuel-efficient car buyers’ needs, but there are other good choices too.
