The Toyota Innova Hycross is the latest family MPV in India but it’s not the replacement to the Innova Crysta. Toyota have revealed their plans to continue selling the Innova Crysta with the 2.4L turbo diesel engine. The Innova Hycross offers a ton of extra features over the Innova Hycross. Starting off with safety features, the Innova Hycross gets an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM), rear disc brakes, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), 360-degree parking camera and a full suite of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features. The Innova Crysta, which was recently discontinued, offered 7 airbags, including a driver knee airbag, compared to the Hycross’ 6 airbags.

Furthermore, the Innova Hycross offers new functional features as well, including multi drive modes, electronically-adjustable driver seat with memory, auto slide and away function for driver seat, front and rear zone auto AC, electronically-adjustable calf support, electronically-adjustable seat back recline for the 2nd row, powered tailgate, front ventilated seats and rear sunshades. It also offers a couple of entertainment and style features like a 10.1-inch infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and DRLs, a shark-fin antenna and a panoramic sunroof.

The Innova Hycross comes with the choice of 2 petrol engines — a 2.0L normal petrol and a 2.0L strong hybrid petrol. The Innova Crysta, on the other hand, will soon make a return with the 2.4L turbo diesel engine. However, to draw a fair comparison, we have mentioned the specifications of both petrol and diesel engines of the Innova Crysta. In terms of power and efficiency, the Hycross clearly takes the win whereas the Crysta offers more torque with both petrol and diesel engines.

If we sum up the article in short, the Innova Hycross offers a long list of features and efficient powertrains over the Innova Crysta. On paper, the Innova Hycross is deserving of being called a worthy successor to the Innova Crysta. However, it sits on a monocoque platform and uses a front-wheel-drive setup, none of which aligns with the characteristics of the Innova Crysta, which sits on a body-on-frame chassis and uses a rear-wheel-drive setup. Hence, it’s safe to assume that the Innova Hycross is not an actual replacement to the Innova Crysta and the latter will continue to be sold alongside to cater a different set of audience.
