We can't wait!
Nobody was complaining when Acura announced that the Integra would be making a comeback, although not everyone was thrilled that it would take the form of a five-door hatchback rather than a racy coupe. We’ve already envisioned what the new Integra could look like based on the teasers that have already been shared, and now we have another glimpse at the new hatch thanks to a few spy photos. These were shared on Integra Forums and although most of the body is covered in camouflage, it appears as though our earlier rendering wasn’t far off at all.
In front, the Integra’s sleek headlights and the brand’s pentagon grille work well. The frontal aspect shares a lot with the latest TLX sedan which is certainly a good-looking car. There appear to be aggressive humps above the front fenders although these may have been incorporated intentionally to conceal the car’s true styling features. At the back, there is a distinctly coupe-like roofline and slim taillight clusters. A subtle spoiler that was visible in Acura’s earlier teaser can also be seen in these new spy photos. Most other design details aren’t visible just yet. Right now, we don’t know exactly what could power the new Integra although those exhaust pipes do indicate that gas will still run through the car’s veins.
A hybrid is also a possibility but perhaps the most exciting news is that an Integra Type S is on the way. This year, Acura has already unveiled Type S versions of the TLX sedan and NSX supercar. Clearly, Acura is making a concerted effort to appeal to keen drivers in the same way that some of its older models did. Not everyone can afford an NSX so the Integra Type S will represent a more attainable ownership prospect, and with engines from the Honda parts bin like the current Civic Type R's turbo-four to choose from, it has every chance of being a hit. The new Integra is expected to be revealed next year as a 2023 model.
