ford ecosport se variant launched in india, priced from rs 10.49 lakh

Ever since it was introduced in 2012, the EcoSport (pronounced “echo-sport”) has been a massive hit for Ford in India. The EcoSport received a few cosmetic and technological upgrades along the way, though competition has been rising each year. With cars like the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, and Tata Nexon upping the ante in the segment. Aside from that, the American automaker had to hike the subcompact crossover SUV prices amidst the pandemic. To bring some spice and extend its lifespan, the Ford EcoSport has now added a new SE variant into the mix. Slotted just one level below the range-topping S trim, the EcoSport SE is available in both petrol and diesel avatars.

The SE variant doesn’t come with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel

Ex-showroom prices of the Ford EcoSport SE range between Rs 10.49 Lakh (petrol) and Rs 10.99 Lakh (diesel). This means that it is Rs 50,000 less expensive than the S trim but almost Rs 70,000 pricier than the Titanium trim. One of the quickest ways to identify the SE variant from other EcoSport variants is to just look at the rear – the SE misses out on the tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Furthermore, the number plate has been moved up to the tailgate whilst the rear bumper sports a silver faux skid plate. And because it doesn’t get a spare wheel, Ford has included a puncture repair kit as standard. Apart from these changes, the rest of the SE is more or less identical to the Titanium trim that it is based on.

Inside, the Ford EcoSport SE variant gets plenty of kit. The most obvious tech-related gadget in this cabin is the 8-inch touchscreen display running Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system. This system not only features built-in navigation plus Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, but it also allows users to connect to their car via the FordPassTM cloud-based remote services. What this means is that you can remotely lock/unlock the doors or even start/stop the engine. Moreover, the EcoSport SE further sports an electric sunroof, auto-dimming rearview mirror, push-button start, rain-sensing wipers, automatic climate control, power-folding door mirrors, cruise control, automatic HID headlamps, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Being the penultimate variant in the lineup, the EcoSport SE’s safety catalog looks good, too. It features ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System, Hill Launch Assist, rear parking sensors, plus front, side, and curtain airbags. Engines offered on the Ford EcoSport SE include the 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated three-cylinder petrol and the 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel. The former produces about 120hp and 149Nm whilst the oil burner churns out 99hp and 215Nm.

The colorful Macaws are not part of the standard features list

Irrespective of which engine you opt for, both are only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox in the EcoSport SE. With its different exterior look, the new SE variant could draw in more people since it does have the potential to stand-out when parked next to other EcoSport variants.
