firmware, phone, galaxy m42 5g, january 2023 security patch, android

The Galaxy M42 5G is scheduled to get at least one security update every three months. However, the phone is certainly getting more security updates than that. It received November 2022 security patch with the rollout of the Android 13 (One UI 5.0) update, and last month, it received the December 2022 security patch. Today, the Galaxy M42 5G is getting one more security update, and it brings January 2023 security patch.

The latest software update for the Galaxy M42 5G has firmware version M426BXXU4CWA2. It brings January 2023 security patch which fixes more than fifty issues related to security. It could have bug fixes and performance improvements. The new update is rolling out in India, which is the only country where the phone is sold (it comes with model number SM-M426B).

You can check for the update manually by going to Settings » Software Update and clicking on the Download and install button. If you don’t see any update even after checking manually, you can download the new firmware from our firmware section and flash it manually.

The Galaxy M42 5G made its debut in April 2021, and it is a rebranded version of the Galaxy A42 5G. The phone was released with Android 11 (One UI 3.1) onboard. It has received two major updates: Android 12 (One UI 4.1) and more recently, Android 13 (One UI 5.0). Since Samsung promised to offer two years of OS upgrades, the Galaxy A42 5G might not get Android 14, but it will keep getting security updates till 2026.
