As Chevy prepares to make the Corvette its own sub-brand, rumors are circulating that the same might happen for the Cadillac Escalade. Although most have always viewed the Escalade as its own thing, it’s always been a Cadillac. That could change as General Motors looks to expand its presence in the electric vehicle market, with plans for the Cadillac Escalade EV.

Is there an electric Cadillac Escalade?

There are plans for an Escalade EV SUV, but it is not here yet. Electric SUVs are becoming fairly popular, and if GM does electrify the Cadillac Escalade, it would give consumers another luxury option in the segment. Plus, according to Car and Driver, a V8 variant would still be sold. So GM would not be limiting the lineup.

Concepts of the electric Escalade have been displayed. And with the Hummer EV already being made, it is entirely possible that this SUV could benefit from up to 1,000 horsepower, which is a serious number. It’s expected that an EV Cadillac Escalade will go on sale by 2025.

Is the Escalade its own brand?

According to autoblog, an electric Escalade might drop its Cadillac branding. Apparently, GM feels that this SUV has enough recognition that it can stand on its own legs. This change will likely occur in the U.S. as well as China. These kinds of luxury SUVs are extremely popular in the Chinese market, so GM does not want to miss out on that kind of revenue.

The news of the Escalade SUV becoming its own brand comes after rumors of GM turning the Chevy Corvette into a sub-brand. To purists, that is fairly controversial because there will be a four-door Corvette and an SUV version. For something that’s always been a two-door sports car, that’s definitely a departure.

In the case of the Cadillac Escalade, it will remain the large SUV that we know and love. So, an electric version should not offend anyone. Even if the iconic Cadillac badge is dropped from the interior and exterior.

Cadillac is going EV

There’s no doubting it; the future of the automotive industry is electric. Love it or hate it, most brands are planning to electrify their lineups. Cadillac is no different, as it has multiple vehicles that are getting the EV treatment. In fact, Cadillac will be among the first luxury brands to transition fully to electric.

If the Escalade does become its own sub-brand, it will likely lack the Cadillac badging. Cadillac is not the only GM product that might get this treatment. The Chevy Camaro could be known as simply “Camaro” in the near future. Much like the Corvette, the Camaro might get an SUV variant.

Of course, right now, this is all speculation. But, according to Car and Driver, it is very possible that it could happen. The good news is that even though an EV Escalade is on its way, it will be sold alongside the V8 version. So, if you are not ready to make the jump to electric, you can still get a massive gas-guzzling SUV.
