how to level alt jobs in final fantasy 14

The Job system in Final Fantasy 14 Online is arguably one of its best features. The idea of having the ability to use the same character for every class and every crafting profession is beautiful. That being said, to level multiple times, you need experience. In this guide, we’ll show you how to level your alt jobs in Final Fantasy 14.

General Tips for Levelling You Alt Jobs in Final Fantasy 14

So before we get started on the methods you can use to level, let’s go through the essentials.

  • Always have a food buff running. Food gives a three percent exp boost for 30 minutes.
  • Join a Free Company with experience boosts running for an extra 10% exp boost.
  • Use leveling experience boost gear if you have it. Things like the Friendship Circlet give a boost of 25% experience and should be equipped during level-appropriate events such as roulettes scaled to a lower level.
  • Always do your Class/Job quests as you unlock them. They give a burst amount of experience as well as access to new gear and new skills.
  • Always complete your Wondrous Tails with Khloe to earn a burst amount of experience.

Generally speaking, it’s easier for a Tank or a Healer to get into a queue of any kind. Due to this reason, most of the time DPS will find it easier to just use Palance of the Dead, Heaven on High, or Bozja/Zadnor once you’ve reached the appropriate levels.

Your Options For Levelling

If you want to find out how to level your alt jobs in Final Fantasy 14, you must first learn your options. Your options range from dungeons, to open area events, to instanced zones. You should do most of them daily if you want to achieve optimal experience gains. We will order them from highest experience gains to lowest.

Daily Roulettes for Levels

As You Can See, There Are Many Roulettes Available!/ Credits: Square Enix

Roulettes are the highest experience gains available per completion. If you have enough time available for the game per day, always complete every roulette except for Guildhests.

These are the roulettes in order from most experience to least experience and on average how much percentage of a level you can expect to gain:

  • Main Scenario Roulette – 44%
  • Leveling Roulette – 30%
  • Alliance Raids Roulette – 25%
  • Level 50/60/70/80 Roulette – 14%
  • Trials Roulette – 10%
  • Normal Raids Roulette – 5%

It’s also worth mentioning that doing the daily pvp Frontline should not be underestimated for its experience gain value. You do not need to win your Frontline, simply complete it but do keep in mind that winning earns you more experience.

Deep Dungeons and Instanced Zones in FF14

Next on how to level your alt jobs in Final Fantasy 14, let’s talk about these special zones, Deep Dungeons. Each of these zones is locked behind either Main Story Quests or a side quest.

These zones are special areas that scale your character to an average strength of the designated level as well as unlocking the use of skills you may not have access to outside of the zones. This is a really nice method of trying classes you have not leveled yet to see if they fit your play style or not as well.

Palace of the Dead

The Palace of the Dead is known as a Deep Dungeon. It’s designed to start you at the earliest level for its range, and have you progress through floors until you reach the maximum highest floor in the set. For PotD, you start at level 0 on floor 1, and progress until you’ve reached level 50 on floor 50.

The earliest option you have access to is PotD and can be unlocked when you reach level 17 on any War or Magic class as well as completing the main story quest, “Into a Copper Hell”. Upon completion, you will be able to queue up for PotD solo, with a pre-made group or four, or use a group finder.

For best results, complete floors 50-60 Palace of the Dead repeatedly. After defeating the floor 60 boss, leave, restart a new run starting at 50, and repeat the process. After reaching level 60 start farming Heaven on High instead until you reach level 70

Heaven on High

Heaven on High is essentially the same thing as Palace of the Dead with a different setting and starting at a higher level. You unlock the use of Heaven on High at level 61 of any War or Magic class as well as after completing the Main Story Quest “Tide Goes In, Imperials Go Out”.

You must also have completed up to floor 50 in Palace of the Dead. Once you’ve met these requirements, complete the quest “Knocking on Heaven’s Door” in Hamakaze – The Ruby Sea, in order to unlock HoH permanently.

Bozja

Following Heaven on High, you can unlock the area The Bozjan Southern Front. Bozja was originally intended as a location to start and farm your Relic Weapon in Shadowbringers.

In order to unlock Bozja, you must first have leveled a war or magic class to level 71 and completed the Main Story Quest “Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty”. Once you’ve done that, travel to Rhalgr’s Reach and complete “The Bozja Incident” to unlock the final quest in the chain, “Fire in the Forge”.

This gives you access to a location called Gangos which in turn allows you to complete the quest “Where Eagles Nest” allowing you to enter the Bozjan Southern Front and begin your grind.

In order to efficiently use Bozja, you simply need to enter the area, ask for a party in shout chat, and follow the party from one FATE to another while waiting for Critical Engagements to appear on the map. We will get into FATES later down below.

Bozja should be done from level 71 to 80 unless you’ve progressed enough in its quest line to unlock the next area.

Zadnor

While completing the Bozja zone and progressing its storyline, you will eventually be able to unlock a new zone within Bozja called Zadnor. Zadnor works very similarly to Bozja. You will still want to complete FATES but in order to spawn them, you must defeat enemies within the region. Join a party and keep grinding!

In order to unlock Zadnor, the quests you must complete are “A New Playing Field”, “Futures Rewritten”, and “Fit for a Queen”. Zadnor is better for your experience gains than Bozja, so if you’ve unlocked Zadnor, make sure you use this zone for levels 71-80.

FATES

Now that we’ve gone through the big hitters for experience gains, let’s talk about the less yet still effective option, FATES. FATES are essentially area group events that occur on every map. They range from small item gatherings and turn-in events to mob clear events, a few escort events, and to boss events.

Typically, FATES have mostly been used for extra experience as a DPS while waiting for the queue to pop for roulettes.

Beast Tribe Dailies for Levelling Your Alt Jobs

The next method for leveling your alt jobs in Final Fantasy 14 is Beast Tribe daily quests. Beast Tribes in Final Fantasy 14 are a group of NPCs that are beast humanoids. They offer many benefits to you including mounts, aesthetics, crafting possibilities, and more. However, what we want are the dailies.

You can do up to 12 beast tribe dailies per day across all Beast Tribes. So make sure that you pick the Beast Tribe quests that can offer you the highest amount of experience points.

We will break down the Beast Tribes by level and location. We are listing only the Beast Tribes that offer experience gaining dailies to War and Magic classes.

Heavensward Beast Tribes

  • Moogle – Levels 50 to 60, Moogles are found in “The Churning Mist”
  • Vath – Levels 50 to 60, Vath are found in “The Dravanian Forelands”
  • Vanu Vanu – Levels 50 to 60, Vanu Vanu are found in “The Sea of Clouds”

Stormblood Beast Tribes

  • Ananta – Levels 60 to 70, Ananta are found in “The Fringes”
  • Kojin – Levels 60 to 70, Kojin are found in “The Ruby Sea” under the ocean.

Shadowbringers Beast Tribes

  • Pixie – Levels 70-80, Pixies are located in “Il Mheg”

Side Quests for levels in FF14

Next, the option of side quests can be valid for leveling your alt jobs in Final Fantasy 14. However, in order to make side quests profitable, you will need to clean sweep every side quest you see on every map. The experience point gains are minuscule in comparison to everything else especially when you need to travel.

It’s better to use side quests while you are in a dungeon queue as a DPS or in a queue for roulettes. Tanks and Healers get priority Queueing so your DPS will need more help.

On Level Dungeon Spam for Levels

So now we’ve arrived at the Dungeon Spam section. While technically, this method offers a lot of experience points gains over some of the other methods, we’re placing it at the bottom. This is because as DPS the queue timer is too long. For Healers and Tanks, this is a valid method for leveling, but Roulette Dailies still offer more experience.

The amount of time you spend in the queue as a DPS is easily equal to half a level. If you’re a Tank or a Healer this method is more justified but still slower than other options. That being said, this is the only method that also grants you gear upgrades unless you’re willing to purchase armor from the marketplace.

And with that, you’re ready to bust through the levels in Final Fantasy 14 at breakneck speed. Now that you know how to level your alt jobs in Final Fantasy 14, check out our other guides to get a foothold in other aspects of the game as well!
