hyundai india has sold over 1.21 lakh creta suvs since its debut in 2020

Arriving on the scene back in March 2020, the all-new Hyundai Creta has set the track ablaze for the Korean automaker. The Creta nameplate has been performing brilliantly in India, with hoards of buyers in the segment rarely considering other options. Since it was first launched in 2015, Hyundai has gone ahead and sold 5.8 lakh units of the Creta in India. The good news for the brand doesn’t stop at that, either. In its glorious history in the country, India’s second-largest automaker recorded Creta exports equaling 2.16 lakh units. One would assume that the all-new Creta, due to its controversial styling, wouldn’t go down well with buyers. Clearly, that doesn’t seem to be the case here at all, does it?

Commenting on the momentous occasion was Tarun Garg, Director (Sales, Marketing & Service), Hyundai Motor India Ltd.

“All-new CRETA has set new benchmarks in the Indian Auto Industry and has become the most loved SUV in India taking the pole position month after month in this highly competitive SUV space. This exemplary feat is a testimony of Hyundai’s manufacturing excellence and class-leading features that we offer to our discerning customers. As we move ahead, I am confident that our smart Indian customers will continue to choose Hyundai cars that are redefining benchmarks across segments.”

The Korean auto major revealed that over 51 percent of the sales came from the higher variants of the Creta. Furthermore, over 60 percent of buyers sought the diesel version over the petrol avatars, with 20 percent buyers picking the automatic variants over the others. As for its pricing, the all-new Hyundai Creta costs between Rs 10.00 Lakh and Rs 17.54 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). There are about five different trim levels on sale – E, EX, S, SX, and the range-topping SX (O). Moreover, customers can choose between three engine options and four transmissions. There is a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated MPi motor that makes 113hp and 144Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT).

If you want more oomph but would still like to stick to petrol, there is also a turbo-petrol engine. The all-new Creta’s 1.4-liter Kappa motor punches out 138hp and 242Nm of twist, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. But if you prefer diesel power, there is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-popper that produces 113hp and 250Nm of torque. This powerplant is available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

Being a Hyundai, the all-new Creta comes with loads of equipment as well. The list includes automatic LED headlamps, a panoramic sunroof, paddle shifters, cruise control, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats. Moreover, you can also get an 8-speaker Bose premium audio rig and a 10.25-inch touch-infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay.

Safety standards on the all-new Hyundai Creta are pretty high, too. It gets features such as Hill Hold Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Electronic Stability Control, up to six airbags, and ISOFIX anchorages. The cabin of the Creta is fairly stylish and modern, while build quality is not lackluster as such, either. Space in the Creta is good for all occupants, with seats that fair well for comfort and support. The Hyundai Creta competes with cars like the Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Tata Harrier, and the Mahindra XUV500. However, as far as the sales figures are concerned, the Creta has barely any rivals that can actually challenge it at the moment.
