This duel between a Continental GT 650 & a BS6 RC 390 has shocking results

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 might boast a multi-cylinder, 650cc mill, but its power output is more comparable to the pocket-rocket KTM RC 390.

Wondering which one would win between these two in a straight line? Well, lucky for you, YouTuber Suraj Verma has found out exactly this by pitting the BS6 RC 390 and the Continental GT 650 in a drag race. Let’s dive into it.

The Competitors

Before getting into it, let us tell you that the Continental GT 650 makes 47.6PS and 52Nm, compared to the RC 390’s 43.5PS and 36Nm

First up, we have the BS6 KTM RC 390, which is powered by a 373cc, single-cylinder engine that makes 43.5PS and 36Nm. In addition, the RC 390 tips the scale at 167kg, giving it a good power-to-weight ratio.

Ever wondered whether the RE Continental GT 650 is fast enough to prevail over the KTM RC 390? Then, here’s the answer!

Going against the RC is the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650. As its name suggests, the Continental GT employs a 648cc engine churning out 47.6PS and a healthy 52Nm. While it has a clear power advantage over the RC, the RE is considerably heavier at 202kg.

Judging from the specs, the RE clearly has an advantage, right?

Coming to the race, you’d expect the more powerful and torquey Continental GT 650 to get the jump off the line but it’s actually the lighter KTM RC 390, which takes an early lead and quickly gaps its rival.

While the RC 390 stays ahead for most of the race, it starts running out of air at around 170kmph and this is when the Continental GT 650’s extra ponies help it edge past the RC, thus making it the shocking winner right at the end.

For the next race, the rider swap steeds but the result remains more or less the same. The RC 390 once again gets an early advantage, only to be caught and get passed more quickly this time with the help of a little slipstreaming by the RE rider.

What Did We Learn?

For the second race, the rider swap seats and the race is a tad closer this time

First, the KTM RC 390 is still one of the quickest sub-400cc motorcycles you can buy at the moment and it is well-capable of keeping up with the Royal Enfield 650s.

Second, the Continental GT 650 is a little faster than the KTM 390s at the top end, which essentially makes it the fastest motorcycle under Rs 4 lakh.
