The official version of Apple’s iOS 16 has been available publicly for two weeks. Although the update comes with several new features, it also brings many errors. There have been reports of issues with pasting pop-up windows and poor signal. Of course, iOS 16 is only available in beta so these issues are not a surprise. According to 9To5Mac, an issue with iOS 16 affects videos recorded in movie effect mode. The bug makes the video unable to open in iMovie and Final Cut Pro editing software.
According to reports on Apple’s support forums and on Reddit, Apple’s own video editors, iMovie and Final Cut Pro, cannot open movie-effect mode videos recorded with an iPhone running iOS 16. The cause of the error is unclear, but reports consistently state that the apps display a “Cinematic effect cannot be activated” error when users try to edit a movie-like video.
Movie effect mode gives a movie-like effect
The movie effect mode is a feature introduced by Apple in the iPhone 13 / Pro series. With the movie effect mode, the camera of the iPhone 13 / Pro series can record videos with a shallow depth of field. It can also smoothly shift the focus so that the video can have a movie-like effect. After capturing a video in Cinematic mode, users can edit the video in the Photos app on an iPhone or other supported device. For videos shot in Cinematic mode, users can adjust the depth of field and focus of the video. This is in addition to the standard editing operations that apply to all videos.
As of now, there is no official response from Apple regarding this issue on the iOS 16. However, a temporary workaround is to edit cinematic-effect videos on the iPhone and then share those videos to the Mac via AirDrop.
iPhone 14 Pro purple has a serious production defect
Earlier this month, Apple’s iPhone 14 series officially commenced pre-sale. This includes the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. One of the attractive colour options of this series is obviously the purple option. While this device is dazzling, all that glitters are not gold. A recent report reveals that the purple version has a production defect that will make you reject it. The report is from Weibo user, @ Laobao Technology.
Gizchina News of the week
According to mages from @Laobao Technology, the dark purple AG frosted glass back case has sufficient texture. However, the actual craftsmanship may have obvious defects. Under certain circumstances, the back case will have a large area of paint peeling. Although it is not clear what happened to this netizen’s iPhone 14 Pro, such results are indeed relatively rare. According to related reports, most matte models will be directly etched and integrated with the glass. Thus, there will be no paint peeling. However, there are reports that the iPhone 14 Pro uses spray paint. Thus, it is possible that there may indeed be a paint peeling situation.
iPhone 14 Pro/Max supports live sports scores in iOS 16.1 “Smart Island”
Earlier this month, Apple announced that iOS 16.1 will enable a new real-time activity feature. This feature allows iPhone users to know in real time what is going on directly from the lock screen. They can check sports games or food delivery orders from the lock screen. On the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, live events will also be integrated with the Smart Island design. In the Premier League, for example, Smart Island displays a live-updated scoreboard with the number of goals scored by each club. When long-pressed, the Smart Island expands to show elapsed time and match-by-match action.
When the iPhone 14 Pro is locked, the score is displayed in a widget on the lock screen. On the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus and all other iPhone models without Smart Island, live activity is completely confined to the lock screen. To test the feature with an iPhone on Apple’s iOS 16.1 Beta, open the TV app and tap the “Follow” button for supported events. At launch, Apple said the feature is available for MLB events for users in the U.S., Canada, Australia, U.K., Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and South Korea, as well as the NBA and Premier League for U.S. and Canadian users only.
Apple says iOS 16.1 will be released later this year. In addition to adding support for real-time activity in third-party apps, the update will include a new clean energy charging option for users in the U.S.
iPhone 14 series
The new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus generally continue the design of the iPhone 13 Pro. It basically has no changes in appearance or configuration. However, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max brings a full range of upgrades. For the first time, an iPhone comes with a punch-hole display. It also uses the very creative “Dynamic Island” design for the first time. Furthermore, the Pro series comes with a new generation A16 Bionic processor. This chip uses a 4nm process and the highest CPU frequency is 3.46GHz. Its performance is far beyond the current top Snapdragon 8+ flagship platform in the Android camp. In addition, the rear camera of the phone upgrades to a 48-megapixel wide-angle main camera. It also uses a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle and 12-megapixel telephoto. However, the front camera remains a 12-megapixel sensor.
According to reports, the iPhone 14 Pro is undoubtedly one of Apple’s best-selling mobile phones this year. The purple version has also become the choice of the vast majority of consumers. It can only be said that if the defect does exist, then users who buy the phone still need to take care.
