Mitsubishi teased the automotive world with this a few weeks ago.

The Mitsubishi Colt will sell in Europe after the Japanese brand decided to stay in the market.

If you could spot a little bit of Renault in this latest rendering, you’d be correct since the Clio-based Mitsubishi Colt supermini will be built by the French brand as part of an alliance which will take the manufacturers up to 2030.

A rendering of the teaser retains a silhouette which is all too familiar.

Be advised though, these are only proposed renderings created by Nikita Chuiko for Russian automotive news platform Kolesa.ru which are based on a dark teaser image provided by Mitsubishi at the beginning of the month. They shouldn’t be too far off since the existing Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi Alliance means platform sharing and badge engineering galore between the three automaking giants.

The vague silhouette and bodylines carried over from the contrasting teaser image also further strengthen the rumour that it will be a Clio doppelgänger, hence why these renderings exist. It also uses the DRL outline to try and fathom the placement of frontal components.

Those with a keen eye will also notice the ‘Hybrid EV’ badge on the front door panel, which exists in the teaser as well. As of yet, there is no confirmed information as to what range of powertrains will propel the supermini forward but based on the exterior similarities, it can expectedly be the same equipment from its French sibling. In the case of the Clio E-Tech Hybrid, the model combines a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated engine with an electric motor for a modest 104 kW and low fuel consumption figures.

The Mitsubishi Colt will sell in Europe after the Japanese brand decided to stay in the market.

Since Mitsubishi have subsequently changed their mind after their announcement to wind down European activities in 2020, the planned introduction of a Captur based ASX will come as early as 2023. We can likely expect the Mitsubishi Colt thereafter which will share as many panels and elements as its French counterpart in a cost saving effort.

It is uncertain whether the Japanese brand will be able to successfully go against its European counterpart in their own back yard but with less than a decade left of leveraging the help of Renault to retain a foothold on the old continent, it seems worthy of a shot.
