maruti suzuki vitara brezza sales cross 6 lakh units milestone

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza was first launched back in 2016. It quickly started racking up orders from brand loyalists and those looking for a compact SUV. The automaker soon realized that the Vitara Brezza is going to be a top-seller, and it was right. Within a year of its arrival, the Vitara Brezza had already accumulated 1 lakh sales – achieving 4 lakh sales by February 2019. By January 2021, Maruti Suzuki had managed to ship over 6 lakh units, a true testament to the popularity of the Vitara Brezza. The compact crossover segment has been inundated with entries from all corners, with several becoming stellar sales candidates in their own right.

The facelifted Vitara Brezza

Of all the cars in its India lineup, the Vitara Brezza is undeniably one of its most liked. There are four variants on sale in the market – LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+. During most of its life, the Vitara Brezza was available with both petrol and diesel engines. The latter was offered with a 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produced 89hp and 200Nm of torque. This was then mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic transmission. However, when the stricter BS6 emission norms kicked in last year, Maruti Suzuki had no option but to remove all diesel versions of its cars. The auto major introduced a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system for added efficiency to make up for that.

The Vitara Brezza is only sold with a petrol engine

The new K15B powerplant in the Vitara Brezza is good for 103hp and 138Nm of torque. It is paired to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. In its automatic avatar, the petrol version of the Vitara Brezza is rated at 18.76 kmpl, while the manual version returns around 17 kmpl. The equipment list sees the inclusion of 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, and electrically-operated wing mirrors with integrated turn indicators. There is also keyless entry, push-button start, automatic climate control, cruise control, a 7-inch touch-infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, and a 6-speaker audio rig.

Meanwhile, the Vitara Brezza is undeniably one of Maruti Suzuki’s safest cars that are on sale in India. It scored a respective 4-star crash-safety rating, which surely helps its case. Among its features, there are dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, ISOFIX anchorages, central locking, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and rear parking sensors. The interior of the Vitara Brezza is practically shaped and while it may not look too stylish, ergonomics is not a concern. Moreover, the seats are fairly comfortable and the large greenhouse area ensures the cabin feeling airy enough. Of course, with the majority of the interior featuring dark grey/black plastic trim, some may feel it to be a little too ‘sporty’.

The Vitara Brezza competes with cars like the Ford EcoSport

The boxy design of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has definitely gone down well with buyers. In an era of soft-looking crossovers, the silhouette of the Vitara Brezza can be breath of fresh air for many. Meanwhile, items like the faux skid plate, a dual-tone paint job, squared-off wheel arches, and enlarged fenders further add to the Brezza’s SUV look. Overall, the sales figure posted by Maruti Suzuki doesn’t come as much of a surprise. While a new Vitara Brezza is under works, the outgoing model still seems to have some miles left on it.
