Priced at Rs 8,499, the Micromax In 2c attempts to set a new benchmark for entry-level phones. Does it succeed? Find out in our first impressions.

reviews, mobiles reviews, android

Micromax In 2c is here, which means we get to see some action under the Rs 10,000 price category, which has been out of the limelight for some time. Most entry-level phones make a lot of compromises that likely spoil the user experience. These phones master one aspect, like shooting good pictures, and lag behind in other departments. This has been the trend with entry-level phones recently, but the Micromax In 2c is here as a lone wolf and is trying to differentiate itself from the crowd in style. The company is back ‘again’ after a long time, with its first launch in 2022. On the spec sheet, the Micromax In 2c might seem similar to the In 2b in various aspects but comes at a lower price point of Rs 8,499 in India.

The Micromax In 2c comes in a single variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. With companies choosing MediaTek and Qualcomm chipsets, Micromax has gone with the Unisoc T610 SoC for its latest device. So, is it better than the other entry-level chipsets? We have been using the Micromax In 2c for two days, and here are our first impressions.

Micromax In 2c: What’s inside the box?

reviews, mobiles reviews, android

The Micromax In 2c comes in the company’s signature green coloured box. Opening the box revealed the device in the brown colour, a quick start guide, SIM ejector tool, a Type-C cable, a charging adapter, a transparent case, and a screen protector. Despite being available as a low budget device, the company hasn’t missed any content to offer inside the box.

Micromax In 2c: What are the hits

Retaining the Micromax In 2b design, the Micromax In 2c has a shining rays-like texture on the back which we have seen first on the Redmi 9 Power. It is a smooth and neat frame which is made of high-quality plastic. It doesn’t catch smudges and fingerprints that easily. The rounded corners and smooth surface make the phone easy to hold. That said, the phone weighs 198 grams and is 8.63mm thick, which is neither heavy nor light.

The camera module is slightly raised, keeping the phone slightly unsteady on a flat surface. There are volume rockers and a power button on the right side and a full-sized SIM tray on the left side. It has a dedicated slot for a microSD card that supports storage expansion of up to 256GB which is a necessity on a phone which only has 32GB of internal storage. There is a 3.5mm headphone port, a mic, and a Type-C port on the bottom.

Coming to the display, it is what you get in this price range, an HD+ screen. The Micromax In 2b and In 2c flaunt a 6.52-inch IPS LCD screen that has a resolution of 1600×720 pixels and has a waterdrop notch. So far, my experience has been good with its display, the colour seems to be well-produced, and the display goes bright in direct sunlight. I would say it is a good screen for media consumption, social media scrolling, or web browsing.

Under the hood is a Unisoc T610 SoC which also powers the Micromax In 2b that is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The chipset can be compared to the Snapdragon 665 SoC. That said, the chipset performs better for all-day usage, and gaming can be done on low settings.

The Micromax In 2c runs on Android 11 out of the box. It is a stock experience which means that you don’t have to deal with any bloatware or spammy notifications. The handset offers a smooth experience to the user, and there are lots of customisation options available.

It comes with an 8MP dual camera setup on the back, which is accompanied by a VGA sensor. The primary camera can capture some decent shots as per its asking price. I won’t say it is the best camera in this price range but not the worst.

The device packs a 5,000mAh battery unit which is enough for a device with these specifications. In addition, it gives you approx 7 to 8 hours of screen time.

Micromax In 2c: What are the misses

The biggest issue I am concerned about is the security updates. The Micromax In 2c has a November 2021 security patch which is very old now. And given that the company hasn’t been the best at sending out the security updates on time, it’s hard to predict when it will receive the next update. That said, the Micromax In 2c will receive one major Android update, i.e. it will receive an Android 12 update only. Which we feel should have been given out of the box.

Like the Micromax In 2b, the speakers are placed on the back, which is not a good positioning. When you keep the phone on a surface, the speaker gets subsided, and the sound becomes negligible. The speaker is loud but lacks clarity.

Micromax has eliminated the fingerprint from the back, keeping the face unlock only option for fast unlocking. Unfortunately, the bezels around the display are thick, and the 720p display falls short when it comes to reading texts.

The Micromax In 2c lacks a good camera setup but has to mend the software end. The secondary VGA (0.3MP) camera feels to be non-existent, and the front camera captures soft selfies with a lack of details. The camera app lags a lot, and it needs better processing. Cameras are a huge compromise with which you will have to deal with.

The Micromax In 2c comes in a maximum 32GB variant, out of which only 24GB is available in the device. The company should have given at least a 64GB storage configuration variant. The 32GB variant becomes unusable in 2022.

If your phone has reached below 5%, then it will take around 2 hours and 30 minutes to get it fully charged with the 10W charging adapter, which seems unusual, and we will test it further for the final review. And the phone gets hot after charging for a long time.

Micromax In 2c: Initial thoughts

reviews, mobiles reviews, android

The Micromax In 2c seems to be a great attempt to set a new bar for low-end devices. However, I feel a few compromises here, and there are trade-offs for what features you are getting. The performance, display, and user experience can be said to be the biggest highlights of the device, while the camera seems to need major improvements. I will be testing the camera and performance in more detail to tell you in my review. Do you want me to put this against any other phone? If yes, let me know in the comments section.
