Apple has a new tool to determine if your iPhone is restarting unexpectedly. It can be challenging for Apple repair technicians to determine if your device is rebooting randomly.

The company aims to fix this problem with its new diagnostic tool.

Apple technicians are now better equipped to handle unwanted iPhone reboots

So far, Apple’s authorized service providers manually went through an iPhone’s kernel and device logs to determine if it was randomly rebooting.

A new diagnostic tool from Apple is going to change this. MacRumors reports a new “System Stability” diagnostic tool will analyze an iPhone’s logs to check for random restarts in the last couple of weeks. This should make it easier to determine what’s wrong with the device. If a problem is discovered, Apple recommends the technician perform the required hardware repair.

The new tool should reduce the downtime in repairing iPhones with unwanted restart problems.

In case the diagnostic tool cannot find anything, Apple’s technician will point you to a support document to help resolve any unwanted kernel panics or reboots.

Troubleshooting a randomly rebooting iPhone is challenging

Apple’s new diagnostic tool works with iPhone 11 or newer models. It is a part of Apple Service Toolkit 2 provided to authorized service providers and Apple Stores.

The usual way to troubleshoot an iPhone or iPad that’s randomly rebooting is to ensure it is running the latest software release. Apple’s software quality has declined, and unwanted bugs can cause your iPhone to reboot randomly.

You should also check if the iPhone’s battery requires replacement. A weak and aging battery can lead to random restarts on older devices.

If the above steps don’t help, reset the device to factory settings. As a last resort, consider restoring the iPhone/iPad back to stock — a frustrating and time-consuming process. Apple’s new diagnostic tool should make things easier in such cases.
