dishwasher

A dishwasher is a machine used to clean your cookware, dishware, and cutlery automatically.

Unlike manual dishwashing, which relies on physical scrubbing to remove soiling, a dishwasher cleans your cookware, cutlery, and dishware by spraying hot water at the dishes, with lower temperatures used for delicate items.

Although it seems as if loading a dishwasher is as easy as putting the dishes in and pulling it out, there is a proper way to load the dishwasher so you can pull out sparkling plates, bowls, and silverware.

Here’s what you need to know to get clean dishes, gleaming pans, and pots.

Learn How to Separate the Dishware

Before you run your dishwasher, make sure that your loaded dishwasher is filled with cutlery and cookware that are dishwasher safe.

While it is always best to check the product, there are a few cookware items that never go into a dishwasher. Antiques like porcelain and fine china, they need to be hand washed, according to CNET.

Hand-painted dishware, bowls, acrylic trays, cups, cast iron, wood cutting boards, non-stick pots, and sharp knives also need to be hand washed.

If you are not sure if something can go in the dishwasher, it is best just to wash it by hand.

Load Your Dishwasher From Back to Front

After removing food from the dishes, load the top and bottom racks from back to front to use the space more efficiently.

For the lower rack, it is best to place trays or platters on the side to avoid blocking the spray arms, which can affect the water flow, according to The Spruce.

Plates and other large items can be placed in the middle. Much like the placement of the silverware, do not nest items so that the water can fully cover the entire surface area of the dish.

Choose Your Dishwasher Cleaning Agent Carefully

As soon as you’ve loaded the appliance, add your dishwasher detergent to the dispenser and run a wash cycle. It is important to use the correct type of cleaner for your dishwasher.

The type of dishwasher cleaning agent that you use on your dishes should also depend on the model of the dishwasher that you have.

You can use either dishwasher tablets, powder dishwasher detergent, or liquid, but do not use dish soap because it could foam too much and damage your dishes.

Unload the Dishes From Bottom to Top

When you open your dishwasher, you should see a burst of hot steam and clean dishes. Do not undo all of the work with sloppy dish removal.

It is best to load the bottom of your washer first, then slowly reach for the top. This can prevent the residual water droplets from dripping onto the clean dishes.

Troubleshooting Tips for Dishwashers

If you are starting to pull out dirty dishes even after loading your dishwasher, there may be something that is obstructing the machine from cleaning your dishes.

First, you need to make sure that you are not obstructing the spray arms. Before you run your dishwasher, try spinning the sprayer arms with your hand to make sure that nothing is blocking their rotation.

Second, make sure that it is not overcrowded. Sometimes, the problem is that water can’t reach the dish. Make sure each item in the dishwasher has enough space to avoid the problem.

Third, clean your dishwasher regularly. To keep your dishwasher clean, especially the filter and spray arms. It is best to clean it once a month, according to Reader’s Digest.
