A classic Nintendo 3DS game trotted over to Apple Arcade. Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! merges Solitaire and horse racing into a unique combination.

It launched January 20 for a variety of Apple devices, including iPhone and Mac.

Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! brings a classic out of retirement

The Nintendo 3DS is part of history now, but is legacy lives on. That includes one of its popular games, Pocket Card Jockey from Game Freak, being ported to Apple’s gaming service.

Like the original, the new version challenges players to a game of Solitaire. Playing better and faster charges up the player’s horse for the upcoming race. During the race, there are cards to pick up that level up the horse, teach it new skills or just run faster. The horse and rider’s position on the truck determines how difficult the Solitaire games are.

So Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! is truly a mashup of a card game and a racing game. It even lets players breed their steeds to make a new generation.

The just-launched version has much the same look as the original, but the racing segments are now in 3D.

Head for the racetrack today

Game Freak’s Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! launched Friday on the Apple Arcade section of their App Store. It’s playable on iPhone, Mac, iPad and Apple TV. Game controllers are an option for any of these platforms.

There are 200+ games in Apple’s subscription gaming service. A subscription is $4.99 per month, and don’t be concerned about surprise in-app purchases because these are completely banned from Apple Arcade. A family can share a subscription, too.
