Apple is shifting production of AirPods and Beats headphones to India.
Three people familiar with the matter told Nikkei Asia that Apple has tasked suppliers to move some production of the AirPods and Beats headphones to India as early as next year. The move is part of Apple's strategy to diversify from China due to the numerous supply chain disruptions from its zero-Covid policy and trade tensions with the U.S.
India is fast emerging as a strategic production base for Apple. iPhone exports from India have exceeded $1 billion in the five months since April, and are expected to hit $2.5 billion through March 2023. A quarter of iPhone production will be moved to India by 2025.
