SEGA is preparing a new Sonic game, but this time, it will not be produced in the Hedgehog Engine. The proprietary graphics engine was used in the latest Sonic games, and honestly, the graphic quality is anything but impressive. According to a job listing published by SEGA, the development uses Unreal Engine 4 and the title will have multiplayer elements.
The offer to be part of the team announced by the company became a topic of discussion on ResetEra. The Japanese company looks for the following qualities in its future hires:
- Those interested need to know how to work with Unreal Engine 4
- Action game development experience required
- Knowledge about online game production (online battles between players, etc.)

Apparently, this is not what you’re expecting from Sonic
Despite being a Sonic franchise title, this new game may have something to do with the upcoming Olympics game. Anyway, it’s interesting to see the change in the graphics engine. It’s an interesting switch, since Unreal Engine has a lot of benefits, and the studio will have to spend less time trying to improve its own engine.
It is worth remembering that Sonic Frontiers, the latest release in the series, will serve as the basis for the next adventures of the blue hero, as said by SEGA. In this way, we can only wait for the publisher to share more details so we’ll be able to draw a clear figure for the upcoming game.
