ted lasso’s final season isn’t all apple tv+ has in store for spring

Apple TV+ promised on Wednesday that its comedy sensation Ted Lasso will finally return for its highly anticipated third season in spring 2023.

Plus, Apple’s streaming service released trailers for five upcoming comedies, dramas and a travel show. Plus, it named premier dates for other shows.

Today is the start of the 2023 Winter Television Critics Association press tour, so Apple pulled out all the stops.

Ted Lasso finally returns to Apple TV+ this spring

It’s been a long wait for Ted Lasso fans: the second season wrapped up in mid-2021. But Apple TV+ committed itself to premiering season 3 this spring. Unfortunately, it didn’t get more specific than that.

And the streaming service is also keeping mum with any details of what’s to come, and there’s not yet a trailer. Just be aware, it is apparently be the last: one of the series’ writers and stars said in 2022 that the plan is to end the show with season 3.

There’s no doubt there’s plenty of anticipation among fans. The first two seasons of the show have been wildly popular, and it won back-to-back Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series. Its list of other accolades would fill a football stadium.

For the benefit of anyone who somehow missed out on the Ted Lasso phenomenon, its about an American football coach hired to manage a British soccer team — despite having zero experience in the sport. But what he lacks in knowledge, he makes up for with optimism, underdog determination… and biscuits.

Get ready for Harrison Ford in Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking

Speaking of Ted Lasso, two if its writers also created Shrinking, which will star Jason Segel and Harrison Ford. It’s a comedy about grieving therapist [Segel ] who ignores his training and ethics by telling his clients exactly what he thinks. The result is huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives … including his own.

Apple TV+ released a full trailer on Wednesday.

Shrinking will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, January 27. It’ll start with two episodes, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday.

Dear Edward tells a tale of tragedy and hope

The Apple TV+ adaptation of the bestselling novel Dear Edward about a boy who was the sole survivor of a tragic plane crash is set to debut in February. Apple TV+ calls the drama “a heartbreaking, life-affirming and uplifting story about survival, resilience, connection and the examination of what makes us human.”

Even the trailer will get you tearing up.

Dear Edward debuts on Apple TV+ on Friday, February 3, 2023. There are ten episodes in the first season, which will appear weekly.

Say Hello Tomorrow! to sci-fi dramedy

Apple TV+ is also prepping Hello Tomorrow!, a half-hour dramedy series centered around a group of traveling salesmen hawking lunar timeshares. Set in a retro-future world, it stars Billy Crudup as a salesman of talent and ambition whose faith in a brighter tomorrow inspires his coworkers and customers but threatens to leave him lost in the very dream that sustains him.

A just-released trailer shows more of the ups and downs.

The 10-episode series is set to make its global debut on Friday, February 17, 2023 on Apple TV+.

Eugene Levy goes on a globe-trotting adventure in trailer for The Reluctant Traveler

In a break from the comedies and dramas, Apple TV+ is also prepping The Reluctant Traveler, an eight-episode globe-trotting travel series hosted by comedy-legend Eugene Levy.

He goes on a variety of adventures, including taking a sound bath in the Maldives, going ice floating in Finland, connecting with the Navajo Nation in Utah, captaining a sailboat in Lisbon, taking a bite out of the culinary culture of Tokyo and journeying into the Costa Rican jungle.

Watch the trailer for a taste of the action.

The Reluctant Traveler premiers on Friday, February 24, 2023.

Apple TV+ comedy The Big Door Prize coming in spring

Another comedy coming to Apple’s streaming service is The Big Door Prize. This tells the story of a small town that is forever changed when a mysterious machine appears in the general store, promising to reveal each resident’s true life potential.

Watch the new teaser trailer for more on the upcoming show.

The Big Door Prize is scheduled to debut in spring 2023.

More Apple TV+ shows on the way

While Ted Lasso season 3 and the other series that got trailers on Wednesday are the highlights of what Apple TV+ has to show the attendees of the 2023 Winter Television Critics Association press tour, it’s not everything.

Apple TV+’s star-studded limited series Extrapolations is a drama set in a near future where the chaotic effects of climate change have become embedded into everyone’s everyday lives. It will premiere on March 17.

The streaming service also revealed that Schmigadoon! will return for season two with all new original songs and guest stars on April 7. Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) will travel to Schmicago, a reimagined world of ’60s and ’70s musicals.
