The Mercedes-Benz EQB can be optioned with seven seats, making it one of the most practical electric cars available.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has expanded its electric car line-up with the EQB SUV, which slots in above the EQA and below the EQC at $87,800 before on-road costs.

That is of course, for the entry-level, five-seat version of the EQB 250, while the addition of third-row seating adds another $2900 to the bottom line.

The more potent EQB 350 meanwhile, is priced at $106,700, and is not available in seven-seat form.

The EQB 250 is powered by a 140kW/385Nm single electric motor that drives the front wheels, and thanks to a useable battery size of 66.5kWh, will travel up to 371km (tested on WLTP standards) before need a recharge.

Meanwhile, the EQB 350 features dual electric motors for all-wheel-drive traction and a 215kW/520Nm combined output.

Driving range does take a slight hit to 360km however, but EQB 350 needs only 6.2 seconds for the zero-to-100km/h sprint.

Regardless of variant however, all EQBs will be able to charge using 100kW DC fast-charging or up to 11kW AC charging.

Standard equipment includes a customisable 10.25-inch digital instrument screen, LED headlights, 19-inch wheels, multi-function leather steering wheel, Artico interior upholstery, heated front seats, electronically adjustable front seats, dual-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charger, powered tailgate and interior ambient lighting.

Handling multimedia is a 10.25-inch MBUX touchscreen, which includes digital radio and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality.

For safety, there is Mercedes’ Driver Assistance Package as standard, which bundles adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist, as well as the Parking Package that includes front and rear parking sensors and a surround-view monitor.

Buyers stepping up to the EQB 350 will also score sports seats, Dinamica microfibre touches, red-contrast stitching, flat-bottom Nappa leather steering wheel, AMG floor mats and light-up door sills.

The EQB 350 also comes with a panoramic glass sunroof, AMG body kit and 20-inch wheels as standard.

However, for buyers that want to further set their EQBs apart, an Edition 1 pack is also available, which will add $9100 to the price of the 250 and $3900 to the price of the 350.

Justifying the extra spend however, will be the addition of “highly distinctive and even more stylish exterior appearance including AMG-inspired body elements”, according to Mercedes-Benz, as well as backlit trim and blue-contrast stitching for the cabin.

As a more practical alternative to the EQA, much like how the GLB is positioned against the GLA, volume in the EQB’s boot measures 495 litres, while folding split-fold second-row seats will expand space to 1710L.

Buyers opting for three-row seating will find 110L of boot space behind seats six and seven, which expands to 465L with the third-row folded, and 1620L with the second-row stowed as well.
