This 1963 Chevrolet Grand Sport is a continuation car, built in 2015 and it’s just as authentic as the original. The GM-licensed custom Corvette is looking for a new owner
Social media is often the source of information on some of the most epic cars, ever made. With this in mind, the Facebook group, Exotic Cars For Sale By Owner, currently has a very interesting listing – a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport continuation car, built in 2015, by Duntov Motor Company, which also happens to be a star from an MTV music video.
Continuation car usually implies replica, however, this particular custom Corvette is one of only 17 continuation cars (13, according to some), made by Duntov Motor Company, who was responsible for the original 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport, of which only five were made.
The seller is keen to point out that this is not a resto-mod. Corvette Grand Sport continuation cars were built to GM blueprints and are officially licensed by GM. It even has its own, unique continuation VIN number – this one is #0021.
In addition to being an accurate representation of the original 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, the continuation car was featured in Vette Magazine, issue June 2019, and has been pictured in Alan Sevadjian’s book “Fifty Years of the Corvette Grand Sport”. The car was also featured in an MTV music video, from early 2020, in case it feels like you have seen it somewhere.
The car has plenty of going power, as it’s equipped with a 427 cubic-inch (7.0-liter) small-block V-8 that makes 700 horsepower. Power goes to the rear through a six-speed manual gearbox. The car also features a unique bronze exterior finish, with a black stripe, and a light-brown leather interior, which is in immaculate condition. Not surprising, considering only 3,000 miles were put on it.
In 2018, a professional appraisal was done, by Canadian Appraisal Services Ltd. The custom Corvette, which is located in Crestwood, Kentucky, was valued at $200,000. The car also comes with full documentation, including a detailed build and materials list, as well as all trophies, won at different events and an assortment of literature, relevant to the car.
While the more modern Corvette Grand Sport models are considered, by some to be the sweet spot between adequate power and usability, the classic Grand Sport “Vettes” capture the non-compromising nature of motorsports – something this particular example embodies quite well. It’s also special enough to be uttered in the same sentence as the King Rat Corvette and Richard Smith’s 1968 Beast
