At least a car came with the purchase.

If you're familiar with the world of cryptocurrency and blockchains, then you're probably also aware of the digital art from this world that is often sold for ludicrous sums of money. Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have become the hottest property online, and everyone is getting involved. A Lykan Hypersport was sold in conjunction with an NFT earlier this year, as was a Porsche 911 created in collaboration with hip-hop artist Rick Ross. Even Rolls-Royce has got involved with NFTs, and so has Nissan Canada.

In the video below, you'll see that Nissan Canada partnered with local artist Alex McLeod to create a very special NFT that would be sold as part of a package that includes an actual Nissan GT-R Nismo Special Edition. The reserve price was set at CA$28,000, or around $225,000, but the selling price ended up being a helluva lot more.

The trippy design is shown in the attached pictures and video, but thankfully, the car itself is far less overtly styled. As a Nismo Special Edition model, the car is finished in Stealth Grey and boasts 20-inch Rays forged aluminum alloy wheels with red accents, a clear-coated carbon fiber hood, and a large rear wing that keeps the angry Japanese supercar pinned to the tarmac at high speeds. The 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 generates 591 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque, so it's a very exciting machine. Yes, it feels like we're trying a little too hard to remind you how good the GT-R is, and that's because the NFT-and-GT-R combo sold for a staggering $2.3 million – more than ten times the reserve price.

All we know about the buyer is that their bid was registered under the name MackD, so we can assume that the individual likes cheeseburgers and McFlurrys. At the time of writing, the funds had not yet been processed, but once they are, Nissan Canada will donate everything over and above the reserve price (which matches the Canadian MSRP of the GT-R Nismo Special Edition) to charity. MackD will get to take delivery of the car when it arrives in Canada later this fall.

Although the NFT is obviously the highlight of the purchase from an investment point of view, the car itself may become pretty valuable in its own right. After all, the next GT-R could be a hybrid, making this R35 among the last of its kind.
