Thanks to a multi-million-dollar investment, the troubled manufacturer says it can finally start production of its V-8 sports car.

, TVR Is Working on an All-Electric Version of Its Long-Awaited Griffith
TVR

When the freshly revived TVR brand revealed the V-8-powered Griffith back in 2017, it promised production would start the following year. Fast-forward to now, and all we’ve seen from the brand are stretched promises and delays, without a car in sight. Now though, thanks to a new investment from a lithium mining company, we should see the Griffith finally enter production soon. And it will be joined by a newly announced all-electric version.

The “multi-million-pound” investment comes to TVR by way of Ensorcia, a metals company that specializes in lithium mining and processing, the automaker said in a press release Tuesday. TVR says the money will go to preparing the 500-horsepower 5.0-liter Ford V-8-powered Griffith for production after four years of delays, as well as repay the debt owed to the Welsh government to get the company off the ground.

The money will also be used to fund the development of an all-electric, limited-edition variant of the Griffith, one that TVR says will be the first in a “family of EV models.” Other details, such as powertrain specs and performance numbers, have yet to be revealed. We suspect the all-electric Griffith will share much of its looks with its internal combustion-powered sibling, saving most of the changes for under the skin.

“We are delighted that we shall now shortly fulfill our promise of delivering the V-8-powered Griffith Launch Edition to the hundreds of wonderful and incredibly patient depositors,” TVR Chairman Les Edgar said in a statement. “Furthermore, as part of our mission to rejuvenate and future-proof our iconic British brand, we can confirm that we shall develop an electrified variant of Griffith, due to market soon afterwards. This is a hugely important element in ensuring that TVR will become a sustainable, net-zero business.”
