Back in the day, Twitter’s characters were only limited to 140.

This is because the social media platform wanted to fit the tweets into the official SMS text message limitation, which is also 140 characters.

In 2017, Twitter decided to increase this to 170 characters.

Twitter users have had no negative comments about this increase since. But, Musk said that he plans to take it to the next level by increasing the limitation to thousands of characters.

Twitter Character Limit to Increase!

According to MacRumors’ latest report, Elon Musk confirmed that the Twitter character limitation would soon be increased to 4,000.

This is a drastic adjustment from the current 280 limits. The billionaire shared this enhancement after a Twitter user asked him.

Elon is it true that Twitter is set to increase the characters from 280 to 4000?

“Elon is it true that Twitter is set to increase the characters from 280 to 4000?” said Twitter user @AllanObare4.

Yes

The new Twitter CEO answered with a simple “yes.”

Will Twitter Thread Still be a Thing?

As of writing, Elon Musk hasn’t shared the specific details of the upcoming character limit increase.

He also hasn’t provided any reason why he wants to increase the character limit to 4,000.

Recently, the billionaire said he would make it easier for Twitter users to separate their long chains of texts into numerous posts.

However, if the 4,000-character limit is really implemented, the Twitter thread could no longer be a thing since users can post their long thoughts on a single block.

Musk is surely busy enhancing the social media platform.

Recently, sources confirmed that the Twitter Blue Subscription service is expected to be $4 cheaper for web users.

We also reported that Twitter’s tweet recommendation was expanded to ensure that people will see the best content on the website.
