Is football coming home? The jury is currently out, but England has looked extremely good so far. It obliterated Iran 6-2, crushed Wales 3-0 and drew 0-0 with a surprisingly strong USA team.
But now the games can truly begin. In the first knockout match England faces off against the current champion of Africa, Senegal. Senegal is without its talisman, the world-class forward Sadio Mané, but still did enough to qualify in second place from its group. In my opinion, the Lions of Teranga were also unlucky to lose against the group winner, the Netherlands.
But under coach Gareth Southgate, England has become a tough team to beat, particularly when it comes to the knockout stages of a major tournament. It made the semis of the last World Cup and the finals of the Euros last year. It’s currently in good form, with huge firepower available off the bench. I expect it to beat Senegal here, but it could be a fantastic match.

The England-Senegal game starts on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. ET (11 a.m. PT). The match will be shown nationwide in the US on Peacock and FS1, which is available on numerous live TV streaming services.
