WhatsApp is soon set to receive two new features: new camera modes and blocking shortcuts. Apart from these two features, there is one more feature that WhatsApp is working on. According to the latest reports, WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to share voice messages as status updates.

People currently have few options for the types of media that can be shared as WhatsApp status updates. With the arrival of the new feature, WhatsApp users will be able to share their voice messages as the status update. As spotted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has been working on this feature for quite some time, and its early signs came out in July 2022.

Now, WhatsApp is rolling out the feature to a handful of beta testers. If you are a WhatsApp beta tester, then you can download the latest beta version from the Google Play Store. You can set voice messages as status updates from the same section you use to send voice notes. The ‘Send’ button changes to a ‘Mic’ button, and long pressing it will start recording your voice message, which is similar to sending a voice message to a WhatsApp chat.

WhatsApp will show your voice message in the status to all users you’ve allowed to see your photo/video status updates. The feature will be end-to-end encrypted and visible for 24 hours. Recordings cannot exceed the 30-second time duration. Do note that your contacts using an older version of WhatsApp won’t be able to hear the voice message in the status.
