Whether you’ve been around since the release or were lured back in thanks to the spooky autumnal update, Cult of the Lamb remains a powerfully immersive game of resource management and sacrifice. A major element of the game involves item gathering through crusades. The maps for the crusades typically feature symbols that might leave players wondering what they mean. Here’s what every map symbol means in Cult of the Lamb.

What do all map symbols mean in Cult of the Lamb

When you progress through the crusade and encounter a map, you’ll see a series of paths you can take to different areas. Each area is denoted by a symbol that will provide the overarching elements of that zone.

Normal fight

If you go through an area that is marked by an upside down cross, don’t expect anything super special. This is just a normal fight area, with the usual rewards to collect and enemies to kill.

Miniboss

Minibosses occur at the end of a crusade and are denoted by a skull and cross bones. The first three runs you do in a region will have you fighting a servant to the region’s bishop. Once you slay the miniboss you can recruit them to your cult.

Bishop fight

After you kill all of the minibosses, you will go up against the bishop. You’ll know it’s time to fight the bishop because the area will be marked by a creature with green diamond eye. You must kill the bishop to progress in the story.

Event

Event areas are symbolized with a question mark. The events that occur in each of these areas can vary widely, from increasing follower loyalty or powering up the stats of the enemies in your current run. Tread carefully.

New follower

If you’re running low on followers, keep an eye out for a symbol that looks like a person with their arms up. These are new follower areas, where you will fight off enemies to free a trapped animal. Once all of the enemies are killed, you can recruit the animal to your cult should you so choose.

Shop

Shops provide resources and followers for coins and are symbolized by a store icon.

Tarot

Tarot card areas let you visit Clauneck’s tent. In these zones, you can get a tarot card for free and buy unlockable cards with gold coins.

Pray

Entering an area that features a creature with a red oval eye will send you to an altar. Here, you can pray to the altar and receive rewards from the One Who Waits.

Hearts

Ratoo hangs out at heart locations where you can refill your hearts to full and gain some additional health as well.

Resource areas

The rest of the potential areas are symbolized by clear descriptions of what they hold. Gold areas are represented by coins, food by berries and turnips, lumber by wood, stone by a stone pile, and bones by a pair of crossbones.
