dead cells announces upcoming dlc that features a crossover with the legendary castlevania franchise

Dead Cells, possibly the most successful mobile roguelike out there, has announced its latest DLC. Return To Castlevania, a collaborative effort with the titular Castlevania franchise, introduces a ton of new content including a brand new biome to tackle as well as new weapons, and is due out in the first quarter of 2023.

In all honesty, this collaboration felt inevitable. Dead Cells takes a lot after the Castlevania franchise, and even already includes a few references, so it’s shocking it took them this long to finally announce this effort.

Return to Castlevania will include a new biome that is inspired by Dracula’s Castle from the Castlevania games, fully explorable within the Dead Cells gameplay. This new biome will of course include new enemies as well as new secrets and even new bosses to do battle with.

Some of these new weapons have already been confirmed, and of course are also right from the Castlevania franchise. These range from the Belmont Whip, the main character’s primary weapon from the series, as well as the Cross and the Holy Bible, all of which will likely operate the same way they do within the Castlevania games.

In a strange new addition, it’s also been confirmed that the two protagonists of the series featured in the trailer above, Alucard and Ricther Belmont, will also assist you within Dead Cells as you progress through the biome. What this looks like exactly isn’t clear, but it’s exciting nonetheless.

The bosses haven’t been confirmed either, but it is likely judging from the trailer that Dracula himself will be the boss you do battle against at the end of the new level. It remains to be seen what other additions and secrets and even cosmetics this DLC will include, but we’ll see when it launches in Q1 of 2023.

It’s also worth noting that the mobile edition of Dead Cells typically receives DLC and updates later than its console counterparts, so we might be waiting a bit later than them to see this.
