The Mercedes-Benz EQS is one of the newest models to hit the luxury segment. It’s an all-electric version of the S-Class sedan, with an MSRP of $111,100. The range-topping S580 comes with a twin-turbo V8 that can produce a hearty 496 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

We expected its electric powertrain to add a premium price, but the base EQS is slightly cheaper than the comparable S-Class. What does that mean for the fully-loaded 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS? Let’s look at what’s inside the 580 4Matic, courtesy of Mercedes-Benz.

How does a fully-loaded EQS compare to the base model?

The standard Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ sedan has a suggested MSRP of $102,310. The only differences between this model and the 580 4Matic are related to the powertrain.

The 450+ is FWD-only with its single electric motor, making 329 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. You’ll get to 60 mph in just under 6.0 seconds, and the battery promises 350 miles of range.

Both EQS models come in three trims: the Premium, Exclusive, and Pinnacle. Even with all the standard features in the Pinnacle trim, which bring its total price to $108,510, the EQS 450+ is still cheaper than the S-Class. The EQS 580 4Matic is more expensive than both, starting at $125,900.

All about the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4Matic

As you probably gathered from its name, the 580 4Matic has AWD thanks to its dual-motor setup. It can produce 516 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque, plus it’s over a second faster than the 450+. All that extra power only causes the 580 4Matic to lose 10 miles of range.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4Matic features 21-inch wheels, LED headlights, and ten-degree rear-axle steering. You can also enjoy a panoramic glass moonroof, navigation with augmented video, and a Burmester audio system with 3D surround sound.

The standard Driver Assistance Package comes with radar-based cruise control and lane-keeping technology. The two PRESAFE systems cover forward-collision warning and emergency braking. The 580 4Matic also gets a 360-degree parking camera and active parking assist.

The 580 4Matic Exclusive trim gains four-zone climate control and massaging front seats. You get the Air Balance cabin-air purifier, which can also dispense refreshing fragrances. This trim starts at $128,275.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4Matic Pinnacle adds more features for the rear passengers. These include heating and ventilation for the seats, a cushy center armrest, and a wireless charging pad. These models are priced at $131,050.

Every 580 4Matic comes with the MBUX Hyperscreen Package, usually costing $7,200. It features a sprawling 56-inch display that seamlessly integrates the gauge cluster, center touchscreen, and front passenger touchscreen.

A few other options are available, some of which also can be purchased on the 450+. You can get a heated steering wheel for $250 and the MBUX virtual assistant for $350. The Energizing Nature seats, which replicate natural environments with sounds and fragrances, are available for $200.

The cabin filtration system can be upgraded with HEPA filters for $450. If you want laminated glass windows, which provide the best insulation and thermal regulation, that will cost an extra $1,010. A regular head-up display is a $1,100 upgrade, but you can also get the augmented reality version for $2,000.

If you decide to go all out, a 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4Matic Pinnacle will cost $135,310. Even with the $7,500 EV tax credit, only the most affluent of drivers will be able to justify such a purchase.
