SEPANG: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has introduced the Mercedes AMG GT S, the flagship sports car of the AMG performance-tuning division.
Launched at the Sepang International Circuit, the GT S combines the driving dynamics and top-notch racetrack performance with everyday practicality and efficiency that sets new standards in the segment.
The two-seater GT S features seductive curves, a long bonnet with a short coupe-like rear, and 19-inch wheels at the front and 20-inch at the rear.
LED High Performance headlamps with stylised “eyebrows” daytime running lights, along with side air ventilators and an AMG front apron infuse the GT S with an aggressive look.
Powering the GT S is a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine with 510bhp and 650Nm of torque.
The engine is the first-of-its-kind to feature a “hot inside V” configuration where the turbo chargers are placed between the two cylinder banks for a more compact design.
Paired with a seven-speed AMG Speedshift DCT transaxle, the GT S can accelerate from 0-100kph in 3.8 seconds. Top speed is 310kph.
Its performance exhaust system with fully variable exhaust flaps can be set by the driver to be either subdued for a relaxed, long-distance journey or more powerful and emotive with motorsport feel.
Also standard is a mechanical rear-axle locking differential to ensure outstanding traction and safety in all driving conditions.
The GT S’ optimum weight distribution of 47% at the front and 53% at the rear with a low centre of gravity promises agility and low inertia when changing direction at high speeds.
The double-wishbone type suspension at all wheels is a technology adopted straight from motorsport.
The interior sports a mix of aluminium and leather trimming with a motorsports-inspired flat bottom steering wheel.
The GT S is priced at RM1.15mil on-the-road inclusive GST without insurance.
The GT S “Edition 1”, which comes with carbon fibre roof and other enhancements such as an aerodynamic package that includes a fixed-rear aero wing, is priced at RM1.2mil.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia vice-president (sales and marketing, passenger cars) Mark Raine said the new GT S is a sports car in its purest form.
“Breathtaking proportions, powerfully sculpted surfaces and flowing lines turn the new AMG into a contemporary sports car which embodies the spirit of the glorious Mercedes sports cars.
“It is a consummate combination of beauty and intelligence,” he said.
Raine also said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia would be expanding the line-up of its AMG variants to complement its regular Mercedes-Benz models.
“The demand for our AMG-badged models such as the A 45 AMG, CLA 45 AMG and GLA 45 AMG has been phenomenal,” he said.
Raine said the company would introduce the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG later this year.
“There are many customers who want luxury cars with high driving performance which our AMG models can deliver,” he said.
