The first-generation Gurkha was unveiled back in 2008 as a proper body-on-frame SUV for off-road enthusiasts and general buyers alike. Truth be told, Force Motors wasn’t able to sell a lot of its brand-new 4×4. Most buyers weren’t too keen on owning a barebones utility vehicle that had little in the way of modern features. To make matters worse, the first-gen Gurkha’s styling and certain design decisions didn’t seem to gel well together. So, in 2013, Force Motors launched the second-gen model, which brought along a few improvements. Then came the third-gen Gurkha, which unlike its predecessor, also sported a design that echoed that of the infamous G-Wagen.

The new Gurkha’s design is heavily inspired by the G-Wagen
Finally, at the Auto Expo in early 2020, Force Motors unveiled the latest iteration of the Gurkha. It was initially decided that the automaker will launch the new Gurkha before the end of 2020. However, the ongoing pandemic didn’t quite allow that. It took until March 2021 and a Force Motors dealership to reveal that the new Gurkha will arrive by May. With the company still conducting a few road tests, we can be hopeful that this time, there won’t be any more obstacles. Similar to the previous model, the new Force Gurkha takes a lot of design inspiration from the Mercedes G-Wagen. For many prospective buyers, the new Gurkha will be like owning a watered-down G-Wagen – a really watered-down G-Wagen.

Compared to its predecessor, the new Force Gurkha gets a few styling updates to keep things shipshape. At the front, the new model features new circular headlamps with LED DRL surrounds plus a painted and reprofiled grille. There is also a new and redesigned front bumper along with new turn indicators that are now even more prominent than before.
Force Motors has revised the rear design of the new Gurkha as well. It now gets a completely different rear glass area and a new bumper as well. Then there is a fixed ladder, a tow hook, and redesigned tail lamps. The changes that have been made are enough to set the new Gurkha apart from the old. At the same time, the higher variants of the new Gurkha will look a little more upmarket – something the old one could never manage.

The interior of the old Gurkha lacked quality
The cabin of the new Force Gurkha will be a far better place than that seen in the old model. It will likely boast a touchscreen infotainment system along with redesigned air vents and other interior improvements. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Force Motors has upped its game when it comes to material quality and fit-and-finish. This is because these were some of the really harshest aspects of the Force Gurkha experience earlier. At the same time, it is being speculated that the new model will also be available with individual captain seats for the middle row.

The new Gurkha would rival the new Mahindra Thar
Power for the new Force Gurkha will likely be provided by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel and a pokier 2.6-liter mill. The latter should be able to churn out 89hp and 260Nm of maximum torque, with both engines being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The new Gurkha will be available with a four-wheel-drive system along with two locking differentials plus a low-speed transfer case. We will have to bide for time for more clear information to leak out, especially about the powertrain and features of the new Force Gurkha. But with the expected launch not too far away, that will happen sooner than later.
