Nothing has indicated that the Phone 1, the company‘s first smartphone, won’t have a wide distribution in the US and Canada, according to PCMag. A “limited number” of the smartphone will instead be available to local investors as part of a “closed beta”; according to a statement from Nothing. It also stated that it planned to introduce a smartphone with US compatibility in the future.

“While we’d love to bring Phone 1 to the entire community around the world, we’re focusing on home markets, including the UK and Europe, where we have strong partnerships with leading local carriers,” in a statement, the company informed PCMag.“It takes a lot to launch a smartphone as you know; from ensuring the handset get support by the country’s cellular technologies to carrier partnerships and local regulation; and as we’re still a young brand we need to be strategic about it,” according to the speaker.

Anyone attempting to use Nothing’s phone in the US is likely to see “unpredictable” coverage on T-Mobile, no voice over LTE support on AT&T, and no service at all on Verizon, according to PCMag.

Nothing ensures that its Phone 1 won’t arrive in the US

news, nothing

After a small number of the smartphones were available for presale on StockX before the product’s official debut on July 12th; rumors that the Phone 1 would not have a full US release initially began to circulate. The smartphone “does not have full support in North America,” according to the product listing. Depending on your carrier, coverage, speed, and/or dependability, the functionality may be affected, or it may not operate at all.

In the past, it has been challenging for new competitors to enter the US smartphone industry. Popular Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Huawei often don’t have extensive releases in the US; while Apple and Samsung typically dominate the carrier options in the US. A startup like Nothing fails to break through to the US market is probably an expected thing.
